Poll question: Best Beastie Boys album?

My pick is their second album, 1989's Paul's Boutique.

It is the best album, period.

2. funny thing about that album is that

it was semi-panned by many critics at the time it came out. They didn't outright slam it but felt that it fell short of what it was trying to accomplish. I always liked it and I think it's good but sorta ironic that everyone gives it the props it deserves now.

5. Way ahead of its time

Paul's Boutique was incredibly far ahead of its time... everyone was looking for "Fight For Your Right to Party (Part 2)" and instead got the "Citizen Kane" of rap... of course the big delay between the first and second records probably raised a lot of doubts among the critics, who must have had their "Sophomore Slump" columns written months before the record was released. Of course, The Dust Brothers probably deserve 50% or more of the credit for the magnificence with their mad production skills.

6. Yeah, I remember the seventies revival thing...

...was like, way different at the time. Other hip-hop acts were sampling seventies tunes, but these guys were in the video for "Hey Ladies" all dressed up in the clothes and everything.

I also remember people dissing me for still listening to the Beastie Boys when it came out.

4. I'm the ONLY one who liked "Ill Communication"?

It had the best music of any Beatie Boys album.

On a related note: I was thinking earlier, do you know what my problem is with the Beastie Boys? All they do is brag about themselves. SOng after song after song about how much ass they kick. Gets old after awhile, and my least favorite form of hip-hop/rap/whatever-they're-calling-it-these-days.
