Tele Tubbies, Mary Hartman, Twin Peaks, and yes, even The Prisoner pale in comparison to the thorazine backed w/ codeine whack good ole' LW has been giving us lo these many decades now.

2. Listen up, y'all

Ol' Lawrence was an INCREDIBLE musician. ALL-AROUND MUSICIAN. Don't anybody be dissin' him lest I get seriously testy.

3. LW was certainly a trip

My favorite was a show in the early '70s when he introduced "a modern spiritual." The act was a couple singing "One toke over the line" (sweet Jesus)

4. Still get a kick out of former Mouseketeer Bobby

and his homespun, hokey dance routines with the perpetual Stepford style smile. I'd love to have heard Fred Astaire's reaction to him. Watching the reruns of that show are the ultimate blast from the past.

5. That show was sort of about an America before "rock and roll".

I used to watch this show every Sunday night with my grandparents, in the 1960s.

Welk had alot of polkas, accordian players, and Irish crooner, stuff from a preWWII era in popular music. So, he was liked by the older generation.

At the time the show was thought hoplessly square, but now, with the interest in folk and "roots" music, I am looking at it in a more appreciative light.

i watched with my grandmother in the late 50`s. in the 40`s some of my relations used to go to dances in western iowa where l w was king of the dance halls..

8. The only thing I liked about Lawrence Welk

was the fact that when his show ended EMERGENCY came on. Yeah EMERGENCY ROCK!!! I had the whole outfit as a kid, air tanks and all.

10. Tom Netherton. Just one pretty man.

Tall, tan. He SHINED.

He's probably some damned right wing christian now, but when I saw him on "Lawrence Welk"...I was in awe. :-)
