Does anyone have satellite radio? I've been thinking about getting
it so I can listen to Al Franken, and AA radio, as well as hear any talk radio other than those idiots on AM. I would love an intelligent alternative to just listening to NPR. Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

1. XM is half owned by Clear Channel... can you stream?
I've considered getting Sirius, but I'm not in the car that much, and I can stream AAR -- and the itunes radio has lots of selections of music w/o ads

I wanted something to listen to in the car. I'm really just not sure what Streaming means.

3. Hi Catfight...

I subscribe to Sirius and I am quite happy with the service. It is my understanding that XM does not broadcast the entire Randi Rhodes show, while Sirius does. As far as the music channels go, XM is 95% commercial free and Sirius is 98% although they claim 100%. They manage to sneak in Sirius ads between the songs. Streaming refers to the digital broadcast of a channel. Broadcast refers to the analog boradcast of a channel such as your old AM radio. You are streaming when you use sattelite radio or listening via the internet...Hope this helps :)

On Edit: The signal does cut out when you drive on an underpass, but that is to be expected. Other than that, I have very good reception...

4. So what exactly do you have to buy to get Sirius
I know you have to subscribe for the service. But there is equipment you have to buy also. I looked at their website and was confused. Is the radio permanently installed in your car? And what about the boom box thingy. Help for the clueless.

6. Good question, and this is quite tricky...
I did the installation on my car and this was a little more work that ususal. There are three basic components you will require:

1. Sirius Compatible Radio $170
2. Sattelite Receiver Got lucky on eBay $80 (Mounts in Trunk)
3. Antenna $50 (Mounts on roof over rear windsheild)

As you can see the cost of the components aren't cheap. First came the installation of the radio. This is like putting in any radio other radio in a car. There is one wire that connects the radio to the receiver, and you will need a constant 12 volt supply. I removed the trim in the car and routed the two wires to the trunk. Then finished the installation of the radio. I was able to mount the receiver on the roof of the trunk for a nice clean install. Simply drill some holes and mounted it with screws. Then installed the antenna, the wires can be hidden on the rubber trim around the windsheild. The whole thing took me a good part of a day, but I am a an amature and was in no hurry. Also managed to save quite a bit on labor fees. Let me know if you have furthur questions... :)

7. Thanks physioex for all your help, I had no idea it was that involved.
Nonetheless, I may still look into it. I'm sure you've helped a lot of us on DU.

5. "Streaming" means:
Can you listen to it on the internet?
