Clothing category crisis...should a man wear women's jeans??

As a guy with a long torso and short legs I can never find pants with the right inseam length (less than 30 inches). I can waste hours going through dept. stores and never find any pants that fit.

Over the weekend I got drenched in a rain storm, found myself without dry pants and was offered some by my SO. The DAMN THINGS FIT BETTER THAN MY OWN!!!!

So, should a 50 y.o. heterosexual buy women's jeans??? I visited 3 stores looking for pants in my size, and found none. Every store I went to had size 12 women's jeans in "short."

6. I notice one thing right away...

The number of belt loops is different.

Men have 1 at the middle of the back...women have 2.
More subtle differences:

1)Somewhat "roomier" hips...which I must admit is different.
2)Shallower pockets...I don't get where that came from, don't women use pockets?
3) More tapered legs...they actually fit a lot like the JC Penny "Slims" I wore as a teenager.

a man of your age can buy and wear whatever he wants. i am all for gender f*ck. however, you may shock the neighbors <smile>. have you looked at large student sizes with smaller inseams? also, there are stores on the web that sell inseams less than 30". you only have to do a comprehensive search.

It's not like they're printed with "WOMEN ONLY" across the front or anything.

I used to work at Kids R Us (the clothing store) and I'd buy the XL boys' stuff all of the time -- the jeans didn't fit, but the shorts and some T-shirts did.

She has a few boys' t-shirts she wears around the house. Some of the slogans and designs look kind of funny on a 24-year-old woman.

Case in point: Her Detroit Red Wings t-shirt that has "GOAL ZONE!" written across the chest. Yeah, that's a goal zone in a manner of speaking.

17. It saved me tons of money

I think I'm a bit more, um, curvy than I was at 19, so I don't think the shorts would fit me anymore (T-shirts, maybe, depending on the sizing). But it was fun -- and cheap -- while it lasted.

Oh, and another tip for most women and small-footed men -- the largest size socks you can get in the girls' section are exactly the same size as the regular socks in the women's section, but cost less. And since they're making kids clothes to look like little adult clothes, they're pretty much the same socks, too.

Also -- I wear a size 7 ladies' shoe. I also wear a size 5 shoe, in the boys' section. I bought a pair of Adidas soccer shoes (indoor, no cleats) for $5 once. I also own a pair of tux shoes, again $5.

But here's a funny story!!!

I was shoping the clearance racks at my local Old Navy Store and I found this beautiful shear white button down shirt. I thought it would be a great shirt to either wear with a tanktop underneath of it or just with a black bra underneath (be a little risky).

I try it on and it fits like a charm, it was a little on the loose side (which I like - hate tight fitting shirts, especially with button down shirts). Then I saw the tag: OLD NAVY MATERNITY

My Old Navy store does not carry Maternity clothes (online and superstores only), but you can return any Old Navy to the regular stores. I guess they didn't have anywhere else to hang the darn thing so they put it in the women's clearance rack.

The shirt really didn't look maternity (although it was kinda sexy for one), so I bought the shirt (it was on sale for $6.99) and when I got home I cut out the Maternity label.

Figured no one will know the better cept now you folks

8. I'm a woman who prefers mens' clothing

not because I'm wanting to be all "annie hall" or androgynous or anything---simply because people who design women's clothing obviously don't have me in mind.

I've got a sort-of small-ish waist for my size/height/weight. HOWEVER I have SUPER HUGE boobies. Therefore, any women's shirt is going to either be so tight you can count my pores, or so big that it looks like I'm wearing a tent.

Men's shirts can actually be TAPERED more than a woman's shirt can. Also, women's shirts only come in these sizes:

Very small

Very Very small

Slightly less small than very small

A bit larger than very small, still only small enough for a girl with no boobs

So I buy men's shirts.

ALSO---I buy men's jeans/khaki pants.

Again--I'm short (5'3"). Big hips. Small waist. Long inseam.

The only thing I can get that fits me (in women's) is capri pants. Which are fine, except for the 8 months out of the year that it's cold and rainy (in Seattle). or the times I'd like to wear long pants. Or jeans.

Again, people who design women's pants think women either come in three sizes:

I don't remember the exact phrase, but it had to do with the fact that all the ladies in my family have huge boobs, tiny waists, and big ol' hips....something about how we can rope 'em in (the men, she means) from the waist up and push 'em out (the babies, she means) from the waist down. The way I say it it sounds stupid. The way she said it...oh yeah! Believe it or not, though, she was a radical fem-libber, esp. for being born in 1916. When she said it, you shook your head but it'd take you a few days to 'get' what she was saying.

The pants I found were definitely not low cut for the waist. Actually the higher waste seemed obvious to me and one of the "give aways" that made me wonder...

If you are buying those low-rise hip huggers, I'd really have to suggest that you buy men's jeans with long legs and raise the hem on the leg until they fit to your liking.

All people are not built alike, so the notion of having standard men's and women's sizes that will fit everyone will never work. I'm short, and very short-waisted and long-legged, so until the reintroduction of low-waisted styles, I had to buy men's pants or else have the waistband act as a secondary bottom band for my bra. :mad: For a short-waisted person such as myself, low-waisted pants are a godsend - finally, pants that FIT!

I mean, honestly, with jeans and t-shirts and button-front shirts, there shouldn't be all that much difference in styling, so wear the size that fits. I wear boys' shoes a lot, since a boys' size 3-1/2 actually fits me better than a women's 5-1/2 most of the time. Doesn't work too well for dress shoes, though.

Nothing fits me better, and I still remember my friend Kevin accidently wearing his sister's Gloria Vanderbilt jeans to high school one day. That was 20 years ago, and my group of friends still call him "Gloria" whenever we feel like pissing him off.

I'm certain that anyone can find some gender-non-specific denims that fit.

If I were interested only in comfort, I'd wear a kilt every day. Sadly, that doesn't play well in Ohio.

Sometimes I feel the same way. I am a male five feet, two inches with about a 30 waist and like a 32 inseam and I could never find any jeans that fit-They're either too big or too small. I never considered going for women's jeans. I might have to check it out.

I have a similar problem... I'm on the short side 5'6", with a 28"-30" waist. I hate loose fit or baggy jeans; I like them snug in the ass, waist and thighs. But, not so snug that they're uncomfortable to bend down in or show male "camel toe".

I can always find Levis or Lee jeans that fit me the way I prefer... with the exception of the inseam. It's always too long by about 2".

The easiest solution (for me, anyway), is just buying a pair that fits me well and bring them to a seamstress to take up the length. It costs me about $8.00.
