Neil Gaiman's "American Gods"

I just finished reading this last night. Great book.

Does that House on the Rock place really exist? If so, I may have actually found a tourist trap within the US worthy of my attention.

Not only does it exist, in Spring Green, WI, it is pretty much exactly as described by Gaiman, including the bizarre World’s Largest Merry-Go-Round.

5. My library doesn't have a copy of Sandman Vol. 9

and it's the only book in that series I haven't read. I think some jerk checked it out and just didn't bother returning it, which pisses me off. I've never read any of his novels, because other novels I've read by primarily comic writers haven't been all that great.

6. the House on the Rock is a tourist attraction.

I have no idea what "American Gods" is all about, but if you are going to be in that part of Wisconsin, go see Taliesen instead, Frank Lloyd Wrights estate and home. Thats really interesting, and also of architectural signifigance

7. American Gods is a book about the human psyche

In its tale gods are entities that draw their existance from this psyche. Tourist traps seem to crop up on nexuses of power that give rise to these gods. The House on the Rock sits at the exact center of America and as such is the strongest nexus in the country.

The exact center of America is where the gods went to receive Wednesday's body. It is the *least* sacred place in the country.

The book must not mean the United States, as I think the Geographic Center is somewhere in Kansas (hello, Dorothy!)

14. actually that location IS signifgant.

As i mentioned the House on the Rock is (very) near Taliesen...this is where Frank Lloyd Wright was born and grew up I think, and later built his home.

So, yes, Americas greatest archtect (and one of the worlds greatest) was from the area..Spring Green & its valley)

That location is pretty dramatic, I can.see it as a nexus of power (and the site of a key Civil War battle).
