Ladies: What is YOUR signature color of lipstick??
Edited on Wed Jun-23-04 11:02 AM by LynneSin
What's the one tube of lipstick or gloss that you couldn't live without if they discontinued it? Come on, don't tell me you haven't a 'signature shade' that you've been using for years.

I'm torn between two. For everyday & casual nighttime use I love M.A.C's "Gleam", but when I want to get real snazzy, it has to be Dior Addicts #483-Taste of Strawberry lip gloss.

What's YOUR signature shade of lipstick?

But yeah, I use Carmex, too. You can't even imagine how excited I was when they came out with a version that has SPF 15.

39. Burt's Bees is good, too--
Every year, the in-laws get me buckets of stuff from Bath & Body Works for Christmas. Way more than I could ever use (I can't stand the smell of some of it, and a minimalist besides.) So I trade it in for hand soap, face moisturizer (Saleswoman: "This one's perfect for your oily complexion, and it comes with a trial size bottle of anti-wrinkle cream...and honey, let's face it, you're not getting any younger..." I'm 28. Grr.), maybe a loofah and a whole bunch of the Burt's Beeswax balm (it's only a couple of bucks a tube, so it helps when you get to the counter and they add up your stuff and you have $4 left to spend).

And yet they let me do the cosmetics focus group...

42. ditto

Dark berry colours -- for a "summer". (With brown/blonde hair and dark brown eyes, I was treated like a "fall" as a kid: wear brown and rust clothing and all that. In fact, those colours make me look like I'm dying of consumption. Finally figured out that my colour is pink, and I just feel so cute.)

Not a makeup person, child of the 60s; a few years ago, bought a lipstick that worked: a black-blue-red that would make some people look like a corpse undoubtedly, but worked on me (not slathered on, just smudged). One day I decided I should buy a few pots of it, to last me the rest of my life. Too late. Discontinued.

My friend and I used to entertain her kids by putting each other's makeup on. She's a "fall" and wears copper/bronze lipstick. On her, it looks like an enhancement of natural lip colour, barely noticeable. On me, it looks like clown makeup -- bright orange.

Anyhow, do not speak the name of your favourite lipstick (or underwear; that's happened to me too - and I'd be wary about pantyhose as well) or they will discontinue it.

14. Terra Tints in "Blaze"
a truly great color from the health food store, comes in a chapstick- like tube but has a lot of color, no petroleum and SPF 18. Compliments almost any color I wear, with the exception of pink, for which I need to buy a new, good fuschia color; am thinking of going to the local MAC or Sephora store to check out lipsticks.

I LOVE makeup! LOVE IT and have very little willpower when I see all these pretty colors in nice palettes spread along makeup countertops...but I won't buy from any line that still experiments on animals... that's the one absolute taboo, otherwise, I'll try damn near any makeup product.

44. Gash has NOT been discontinued!
You almost gave me a heart attack. It can be ordered here: www.urbandecay.com/ProdDtl.cfm?ID=13

(Many other things can be ordered there. You have been warned.)

It's a shocking red but suits my coloring. For less aggressive days, Revlon's Lavender Smoke is good. Also fond of MAC's Spanish Fly--a sheer reddish brown with a subtle (honestly) metallic green tinge.

Lipstick & a bit of eye makeup is usually enough for me. And lots of sunscreen....

I was a little worried since every store has stopped carrying their lipsticks. A clerk at Sephora told me that they had discontinued the lipstick line in favor of glosses & stains. Whatever the story is, I'm going to order a bunch right away. Thanks for the tip!

29. MAC Lipglass Stain in Chroma Camel
and Lancome Juicy Tubes in Manihi. And I can't live without Neutrogena's Lip Boost - the stuff is AWESOME - it's like a lotion for your lips instead of a balm. Goes on smooth. I just bought four more at Target to stock in all the vital places (purse, desk, car, nightstand). Sure beats paying $30 for Lancome Lip Treatment! Same thing, helluva better price!

30. Clinique's Berry Berry. But I'm looking for something better.
I can never find exactly what I want. I like a lipstick that is noticeable (why bother wearing it if it isn't). But since I have very pale skin, it is tricky to find a darker shade, preferably in the red family, that I can pull off. A friend started selling Mary Kay recently, and I'm going to see if I can find something through her.

31. Since I don't use up lipstick very fast
the color names change by the time I need more so I take my almost-used-up favorite and compare it to lipstick "testers" at the store. I go for my natural lip color "only more so".
My mom once complimented an older lady she knew on her pretty, naturally pink lips, and she commented that was because she never had used lipstick- the manufacturers put a bleaching agent in lipstick so that women would keep buying the stuff! Not sure if true, but I wouldn't put it past cosmetic companies wanting to keep the $$$ rolling in!
