Dubbing Sux!

Watching a Japanese film right now (Samurais) and its dubbed only. Arrrrrrgggggg. Not that this is a masterpiece or anything but dubbing just kills the flavor of the acting. And if the voice actors suck.... blech...

Where do you stand? Subtitles or Dubbing?

1. Subtitles.

Dubbing usually takes away from the actor's performance.

2. I'm a sub guy myself

er...wait! that didn't come out right!

I agree, and I was just talking with a friend about this today. I've seen many sub-titled movies and hardly even noticed that they were sub-titled. As long as the text is readable, it's a non-issue for me.

Dubbing ruins movies. Visually, the sound has to sync with the face, or the experience is ruined. Emotionally, an actors true voice, coupled to a subtitle, conveys the original movie just fine. A dubbed voice does not.

3. We watched Run Lola Run (Lola Rent)

Later when we wanted to watch it with other friends we started it up there was confusion over whether we had watched it originally in sub or dub mode. We seriously could not recall reading the subtitles. Its second nature to us now.
