credit card question...for the knowledged on such things
Hello all...

Recently we overpaid a balance due on a credit card by a significant amount...oversight on our part. We very quickly realized the mistake and sent a letter to the card issuer that a check be sent to us to bring the card balance to $0.00. That was three months ago and we still have not, after several discussions, received payment. Does anyone know of rules and regs on this? Do they have to cut the check in a specified time? Are they required to pay interest on the amount owed to us if they hold it for more than 'X' days?

Any info would be cool!
Thanks!

2. I don't think they have to pay interest.
That wasn't part of your agreement, I'll presume.

As far as how long they have to send you the balance... I dunno.

4. You should probably
just go to a grocery store or something and charge that amount. That's what I ended up doing once.

5. would love to...but
the point of paying off the balance was to close the account. Now that the account is effectively 'inactive' there is not a whole lot of choice in that vein...we just want to close the account and be done with it (as well as all the other credit cards we have ever held).

6. Call Clark Howard!
He's a consumer advice guy. He has a talk show out of Atlanta. His number is 404-892-8227. His website is www.clarkhoward.com. He tends to be a little right leaning, but he knows a lot about consumer stuff, credit cards, scams, etc. Check out his website. There's a lot of informative stuff.

Good Luck!!

:-)

7. You could also call or e-mail Dave Ramsey.
Try www.daveramsey.com. He's a radio host (on Christian stations) who deals with personal finances. He loathes credit cards companies, and is real knowledgeable about your rights. Maybe he could tell you.

8. if I could stand his voice
I would gladly...but I lived in ATL for a long while and the afternoon drive with Clark was rough...the info was great but his 'boy-scout' naivete, his voice and little lilt drive me nearly insane at this point...the website is a good idea, though.

Thanks

10. Have you seen a statement
That shows a credit? I overpaid mine without realizing it, and when I received a statement, it showed up. I called customer service and they sent me a check. I would call their customer service in addition to sending a letter. Things usually get handled more quickly that way.
