Question about Mozilla Thunderbird

I just installed the Mozilla Thunderbird email client and have a question about it if anyone uses it. I was wondering why embedded images don't show up on emails. I looked for the answer at Mozilla.org, but had no luck. Thanks...

1. If the emails are from AOL folks

...embedded images won't show up in Outlook Express or Mozilla Thunderbird. Images need to be sent as attachments.

Because embedded images are bad news. They're not really embedded, and so require the email app to establish a connection to the web site with the image.

This allows the sender to know the email was opened, and thus, if a spammer, to know that your email address is valid -- resulting in more spam.

Thunderbird can be configured to load these images -- but you do not want to do this.
