Am I so wrong for not being able to stand Dylan?

My brother just can't get over how I don't like Bob Dylan. I mean sure, he has some OKAY lyrics...but honestly I always thought he was too busy trying to be cute, while masters like Lou Reed truly captured the still life essence without selling out.

I can't stand Dylan's voice, and his electric band "The Band" was OK, but not spectacular like rock historians would have you beleive.

I've looked for something to really like about his music and his singing, but I haven't been able to find anything and I've been looking since the late 60s. I must really be missing something, or maybe not.

If it wasn't for Dylan, there wouldn't even BE Lou Reed. Reed idolizes Dylan and would laugh at your post.

It doesn't matter to me... but put yourself in 1963, and think of the breadth and depth of subject matter on serious songs like "Blowin' In The Wind" or "Hard Rain"... then the comical turns of "Talking WW3 Blues" or "I Shall Be Free", or the bittersweet loss of "Don't Think Twice It's Alright" or the sadness of "Bob Dylan's Dream"... all inone album! Then think ahread to 1965 when he plugged in and changed the meter of lyrics, the freedom of subject matter, the instrumentation unprecedented in rock... heady stuff.

Dylan took on civil rights, Vietnam, and personalized lyrics to an extent unknown before... he is the one who brough Woody Guthrie's social consciousness to rock and roll...

Dislike Dylan at your leisure, but be ignorant of his place in rock history at your peril.

But to me Dylan is a legend. I have no problem listening to him and his music and lyrics are part of everyone. I have seen him play his game and I have seen him rock the house.
I got to work security for him one night at Kent State and he blew me away. That was only a little over a year ago.
Take the time and watch the documentary "Don't look back". It's worth the watch.
