Checking in from Las Vegas F-9/11 viewing and a great day!

[Systematic Chaos]

Well, our showing of the movie was at 11:10am at the cineplex in Sam's Town Hotel/Casino. We got there even before the theater was actually open, just in case there was a really long line. The movie was far from sold-out, but I would venture a guess that the theater was nearly half full, with about 150-200 people in attendance.

My wife, who has liberal views but has never been political, cried more than once during the film. I have to admit that the scenes near the end with the lady from Flint, MI also had me choked up. There were many places in the film where almost the whole audience was laughing, and the couple sitting to the other side of me didn't pull any punches in expressing their displeasure at the regime.

When the movie was done, there was about a 30 second ovation of hearty clapping and cheering. I am 35 and I'm not the most avid moviegoer. I only see an average of 2 or 3 movies a year in theaters. However, I cannot recall a matinee showing of a movie prior to this one that was as full as F-9/11 today; nor can I recall any movie that received an ovation.

I topped off that wonderful experience with a trip to PetSmart to buy some kitty litter, and Jeanette and I ended up staying there nearly an hour just giving the cats up for adoption some much-needed attention. Out of five that were in the little room, there were two we would have snatched up on the spot, if only living space and finances were sufficient to support a total of five cats. Lastly, we went to dinner at a wonderful seafood restaurant called Hush Puppy, that serves all-you-can-eat breaded shrimp and catfish. I'm stuffed to the gills (pun intended), very emotionally charged and more content than I've felt in some time given all the problems I've been having lately. Thank you, Michael Moore, for making such a great film.

Oh, and before I forget, I have at least one friend who really wants to see the movie too, so this will very likely be the first movie ever that I've seen in the theater twice. :)

My hubby and I just got back from the 5:15 show at Sam's Town...it was about 60% full, and it also was applauded and cheered at the end. Both of us were sniffling a time or two.....what a great film it was!

3. I'm planning on catching it at The Village on Sahara near FA,

but probably not until next Thursday.

I'm looking forward to it, but I don't do that well with violence (I couldn't watch Saving Private Ryan all the way through because the violence was just over the top...not to mention some of the acting) so I'm a little apprehensive

4. I won $500 after deciding to pass on opening night crowds!

Finally a huge win on a bonus type slot machine. Those machines are all but disappearing, cutting into my income.

At 10 PM Friday I hit Double-Diamond, Double-Diamond, Orange 7 on a dollar Kool Kat machine at Caesar's Palace for a nifty $500. Just an our or so earlier I decided to pass on Fahrenheit 9/11's opening night in favor of a smaller crowd in a week or so. I was checking out Euro 2004 and College World Series odds when I ran into the Kool Kat play.

Thanks, fellow Las Vegans, for letting me know where it's playing. I used to love the offbeat films at the Gold Coast's theater, with the $1 snacks, but I'm not sure that theater even exists anymore.
