My first A&E City Confidential WITHOUT the late Paul Winfied narrating

Here is the inside dope on his replacement...

Sadly, I think one of Winfield's best City Confidentials was one of his last. It was about a white supremacist who acted as his own attorney and had the right to replace the judge. He did so on the grounds that the judge's name sounded too Jewish, and he agreed to a judge whose name sounded more Irish. The replacement judge (and here Winfield got in a good chuckle) was actually African-American!

1. I love City Confidential

I'm a huge fan of those A&E crime shows, but CC was great mostly due to Paul Winfield's awesome voice and narration. My favorite of his was the one he did on the serial killer from Mercer Island here. That was a great episode. Paul will definitely be missed by his fans like me. I'm curious about his replacement tonight.:hi:

3. I can't imagine anybody else doing the narration.

Winfield had that spooky/cynical tone to his voice... I can't quite describe it, but it was perfect for the show and set an appropriate mood.

4. mr winfield was a class act

i was lucky enough to work as an electrician on a production of othello with paul in the title role (and richard dreyfess as iago) many years ago. the man was a damn fine actor.

He was wonderful when the story had the element of the "wealthy" hypocrites. The people living in luxury and killing for the insurance money.

8. I Like The New Guy Better

Nothing against Winfield, but the combination of his chuckling voice and the too-cute writing of the narration was a bit too much.

I still can't believe that when they did my hometown (KC MO), they did a story on a murder that no one remembers and wasn't particularly shocking. C'mon - we had Berdella, the murder of Col. Swope and a whole passel of more scandal-rich stories than the one of the musician who was killed while he was cruising the Liberty Memorial (a very phallic WW1 memorial that was a gay pickup zone).

9. I like City Confidential, but agree about the sappy writing

It's an hour show that probably could squeeze into a half hour minus the dozen or so prerequisite cutesy lines regarding the city or region.
