2. Progressive Rock.
There seem to be two types of bands of this genre. The ones that are metal, like Rush or the ones that are more psychodelic, like Pink Floyd. These guys have a very heavy Pink Floyd influence in their work.

6. Hard to say...it's all pretty amazing. Try "Blackest Eyes".
The "In Absentia" album is pretty consistently good all the way through. Steven Wilson, the driving force behind Porcupine Tree, has said in interviews that he feels "Blackest Eyes" really kind of sums up everything about Porcupine Tree in 5 minutes...the heavy progressive metal, the acoustic singer/songwriter stuff, the psychadelic Floydian kind of stuff, and the 3-4 part harmonies.

I'll be happy to check some other album tracklistings if you want more recommendations in a particular direction. (I don't have all of the official releases yet, but I'm intimately familiar with a lot of the tunes due to live recordings.)
