Could you date/ marry somebody who was a repub?

I know it has worked with James Carvile, but how many of you could honestly have a relationship with a person who was not of the same political persuasion as you?

Personally, I could not do it.

I have one conservative friend, and let's just say we really can't discuss politics. He's also a conservative Catholic priest. (In case you're wondering, we share a love of silent films - other than that, I can't imagine why we would be friends!)

We were together for three years. Later on, she bacame a Democrat after she came out.....

Wife #2 was apolitical. No opinions one way or the other. It lasted 7 years.

Mrs. CO Liberal is an independent. We agree on some issues, disagree on otehrs, but respect each otehrs opinions. It's worked very well for over 11 years now.

Rank and file Republicans used to be way more moderate than they are today and in fact most of the Dem voters that I know over the age 60 these days used to be Republicans.

Some things are more important than ideology. Love transcends. I always shake my head at these threads, and feel pity at those who would refuse to love someone with differing political believes. Denial of love is the adjacent neighbor to hate.

Love transcends all things. I've read about Protestants and Catholics intermarrying in Northern Ireland, and on occasion Israelis and Palestinians intermarry. In the grand scheme of things the gulf between an American liberal and conservative is not so great. I'm sure I'll be flamed for saying that, but no matter. I can take it. No one says is going to be easy, but you're limiting yourself otherwise.

If you have any type of fetish or are into a certain physical "type," then their mind or soul doesn't come into it. Frankly I'm not sure why anyone would marry someone who had a completely different belief system except to take them for their money which is clearly not the case in the Carville household. Relationships are hard enough without having major differences like that. It's part of my values. I've never met a Republican man anyway who was interested in me for my mind though (I've met some pigs in fact), so I doubt it's going to be a problem. Not that I would only want to someone to be interested in my mind, but it needs to be a part of it.

49. Odds are good that, if they were Republican, their nonpolitical

attributes and attitudes would turn me off, anyway. The answer for me is YES, I could probably at least go out with a Republican woman, but if she were hard-core neocon I really doubt that we'd even get to that stage. Not all Republicans are evil, twisted, necons, but it's still a party that's aligned primarily with forces and attitudes that I can't believe that anyone with any goodness or compassion could embrace. I do not think I could be involved with someone who was significantly more conservative than I am but I would have no problem with someone who is more liberal. Would be hard to find someone more liberal than me but if there was I would be cool with that.
