I messed up my knees on the trampoline

I feel like I tore up a bunch of muscle or something. I'm pretty out of shape physically due to CFS, and have had a lot of problems with severe weakness in my legs...but I was feeling pretty good and I did too much jumping. Now my knees are painful and wobbly when I walk.

Any idea how long it will take to heal? I plan on seeing a professional if they don't get better soon.

What should I do in the meantime?

Man, I'm ticked off. x(

1. Try to stretch your hamstrings
With fibromyalgia and CFS, it's best to do some low-impact things. Have you ever tried yoga? That might be good for you. It helps calm you and it really helps with the pain. I too have FM, so I can relate to what you're going through. I have knee issues, so I modify some of the poses. It's really helped me. Good luck!:hi:

4. Thanks!
:pals:

I've been thinking about trying yoga again, I've done it here and there...when I was in high school it was offered as an alternative gym class. Anyway -- that's a great idea, and I think I will really do it this time. At this time in my life, aerobic stuff tends to wipe me out or hurt me like this. :(

Have had a history of ankle injuries and lower body weakness, but never knee problems before. Hopefully it will be short lived.

6. Seriously, if it lasts more than a couple of days
or if you're having trouble walking, see your doctor right away. But the lower-impact thing might be best, and it will help you relax too. I know how much "fun" (NOT) it is to deal with these health problems, and I feel for you. :pals:

8. Thanks , I do appreciate your empathy

Sometimes I feel so alone when everyone else is healthy and totally able. It helps to know other people have dealt with this crap and survived. :-)

I wish you luck in ALL your current struggles as well, Lisa.

10. I'm very into yoga, if you have any questions about it
I'm actually going to go on a week-long retreat to Molokai in November. I decided today to do it. Life is too short, and I need to nurture myself right now.

With chronic illness, you need to find the best way to tend to your own needs, and for me, yoga really helps. Plus, I figure, unlike taking drugs or drinking too much, it doesn't have any nasty side-effects!

I subscribe to a daily newsletter from prohealth. It's called Tip of the Day, and it's very interesting for FM/CFS patients. I'll check out the link and get back to you. I believe susang tipped me to it last fall, and it's a great resource.

I appreciate it, that looks really interesting. I'll let you know how
and when yoga goes, too. That retreat sounds great.

I had to go for PT, but my knee has never been the same.

I would see a doctor.

5. Oh, that's a pleasant thought...

:grr: But I appreciate the concern, I'm worried too. Yes, if it doesn't get better soon I'll see a doc. Thanks. :-)

3. I'm not a Dr., but I play one on TV....
Maybe you just overdid it and a good night's rest will do the trick...

Or maybe (more probably), I have no idea what I'm talking about, am very bored at work, am getting very giddy after having been here for 18 hours and am just replying to threads that won't get me in trouble...

As for what you should do in the meantime, let me recommend two very good books, "Watership Down" by Richard Adams, and "The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers" by Paul Kennedy

and one great movie...

"The Awful Truth" starring the ever-cool Cary Grant and the ever-most-beautiful woman in the world, Irenne Dunne

And try a cup of hot chocolate (marshmellows optional)

:)

12. Thanks, Lantern Waste

I'll check out all those suggestions! No one can believe I haven't read Watership Down yet, so I should attempt that anyway. :-)

Maybe black tea instead of chocolate tonight, though.

And I will pray that this will be better tomorrow... I've been on a self-improvement kick and it would make me CRAZY to have to become a couch potato again. :grr:
