Yanks/Sox series prediction

Well, it's been two months since these two teams have seen each other, and at the very least, I expect this series to be played much better than the first meeting. Both teams hit poorly w/ RISP, both teams had terrible fielding, and both teams had poor pitching at times (starting and relief). However, since then, the Yankees have been red hot with the best record in baseball (despite injuries/illness to Brown, Mussina, Giambi, Sheffield, and Posada) and Boston has struggled to stay consistant.
Despite all of this, I expect the Yankees to take 2 out of 3 from the Sox.
Predictions?

1. You talk about your injuries while ignoring the fact that Nomar, Trot,

Bill Mueller, Scott Williamson, BK Kim, Ramiro Mendoza, and Ellis Burks have all missed on average about/at least 85 percent if not all of the season thus far. But you've had 2 starting pitchers go on the DL just recently.

If it wasn't for BK Kim being our closer last year we would have won more games at Yankee stadium, at least 2 in all liklihood. Now we have Foulke.

I don't even know who's starting your Thursday game, but I predict 2 out of 3, redsox.

Man I just realized that this will be the first time Wakefield pitches in Yankee stadium since game 7 of the ALCS. He was masterful their that whole series before that homerun.

2. Some questions...

Ramiro Mendoza has been on the Sox for a couple seasons now (he was a former Yankee and a kewl guy), but I swear everytime I pick up the paper, I read he's on the DL or on the shelf for various injuries. What's up with that?
Re: BK: He's good, but if I was the Sox, I would not let him near the Yankees come crunch time.
Re: Mueller/Burks/Nixon: Granted these guys have been hurt, but I think to expect last year's (career high for most) production from them is a bit high.
Re: Wakefield. No doubt about it- he ownz the Yankees. And how. Aside from that one pitch (heh heh heh heh), he gave up something like 3 runs over 20 innings last season against the Yankees. Wicked numbers.
All in all, it should be a fantastic series now that both teams are at least playing well.

3. ok I'll attempt to

Ramiro Mendoza: Yeah he's litterally been plagued by injuries. It's sort of become a joke with the media. What innitially sent him to the disabled list this season I believe was tendinitis, and although he is pitching now in Pawtucket (AAA), he's been said to have a stiff neck I believe. He along with Burks, BK, and Mueller are all with the Pawsox on rehab stints and are therefor all more than likely to be ready to go back to the team by the all-star break. Mueller is I think coming back on Friday.

Mueller/Burks/Nixon: Well I don't really know how much we'll get from Burk's, other than maybe some pinch hits for Ortiz and Nixon against lefties, but as far as Nixon and Mueller go, they're both great players now and at least with Nixon I don't think that we've seen him peak already. I don' think a sane person can say Mueller didn't have a career year last year but he was the BATTING CHAMPION. He'll hit around least 305 with probably just as high slugging.

4. My point is...

The Sox have a decent offense with Nomar, Nixon, Mueller, and of course Manny, but I have seen WAY too many Sox fans think that they are going to see the same type of years from these guys as last year.
BTW, how's Nomar doing? He's actually one of my favorite players.

5. Nomar and Nixon are back

so I expect a harder fought series this time around..kind of hard to stand up and say,"oh yeah, The Yankees manhandled the...Mets" :eyes: because the Mets , while improved, arent in the same class as Boston.

Glad to see Jeter swinging a hot bat again. but now Giambi is hurt...I didn't know about Posada :wow:

6. Giambi has (no joke) an internal parasite

It's why he's been losing weight and suffering from severe dehydration all this month. He's had some hella strange medical problems.
Posada has been slumping ever since he took that ball to the nose; I suspect he's still hurting from that. I mean, broken noses are bad, but if you're a catcher, that's gotta really suck.
Good game today, I expect the games against Wakefield and Pedro to be much, much closer.
Still say 2/3 Yanks.

Are we on course for a sweep? Then we close out the 1st half of the season by beating the crap out of the Mets at Shea? Things are looking VERY GOOD.

I wish we hadn't traded Soriano, though. We would have had the hardest-hitting infield in baseball had he stayed. Second base is just a huge black hole, sans Soriano. I'd bring Tony Lazzeri or Joe Gordon back from the dead over Cairo and Wilson. Hell, tell Willie Randolph to get his ass out of the coach's box and start taking grounders. I can even tolerate Bobby Richardson or Gil McDougald or Jerry Coleman or Snuffy Stirnweiss. :)

DAMN! I just remembered something: We keep Soriano = NO A-ROD! :-(

10. You have to be kidding me

First of all, my contempt of the White Sox only applies to their mullet-sporting fans. They constantly bitch about the organization but they did exactly the right thing - they kept their powder dry money wise and picked up a pitcher who could win the division. Once you are in the playoffs all bets are off. See Anaheim and Florida.
Today in baseball you get to the playoffs and then the season begins. White Sox are smart. (Plus White Sox have a sweetheart stadium deal on my dime as a taxpayer, but blame Jim Thompson for that - it was truly graft.)

But I cannot believe you are bitching at the BoSox. They have the second highest payroll in baseball (that means ownership cares -even if the money is poorly spent). And they have a large lead in the WILDCARD. BoSox get to the playoffs. And AGAIN once you get to the playoffs, all you need are 2 starters and some pop. The BoSox have pop.

As for Chicago, I haven't really been paying attention to what is happening in the AL Central. (I do know about the Garcia trade and the fact that Magglio Ordonez is hurt.) Part of what prompted me to respond was my having read the thread about the cop and his wife who were assaulted by those drunken louts at Comiskey. (I cannot bring myself to call it U.S. Cellular.) The Springer/mullet/white-trash references were hilarious.

But nothing in sports comes close to the Sox/Yanks series. Nothing even close.
The hatred the fans have for each other...the hatred the players have for each other...it's insane.
Even early in the season, tempers are flarin'!
