What Is the Best Painkiller On The Market?
I need something for my jaw. It's absolutely killing me. My dentist recommended Tylenol and Codene, but I had that once and it didn't do squat.

I want something BIG, that WORKS.

Any recommendations?

13. NO on oxycotin
It's highly addictive, and very dangerous. The dosage that effective is not that far behind the dosage that's fatal

Go with something else.

4. Fly the skies.
A handful of nuprin will push coma status.

Blended whiskey will go down smooth and transfer the pain into many places in your body.

Watch Scarborough on "MSNBC" and the anger will replace pain.

5. Vicodin ES or Percodan
Your dentist should be able to get you a prescription. The Vicodin ES is not considered a narcotic so they're more apt to give you that one. The Percodan is considered a narcotic and unless you've recently had surgery, they probably won't let you have that one. It works really good.

7. Docs and Dentists get weird
when you ask for something by name - they seem to think you're trying to score a fix. If you know your dentist well enough, tell him you WILL NOT spend another minute in agony and need some Hydrocodone (Vicodin) or Oxycodone (Percocet). Percs are schedule II narcotics and Vicodin are schedule III. He can call in the Vicodin to a pharmacy, but for the Percocet you'll need a hard script. Both of those should do the trick but I think you'll have better luck getting the Vicodin - Docs get a lot of hassles over schedule II meds so they prefer to write scedule III's.
You can take Advil with either of these meds. 3-4 Advil (600-800mg) every 4-6 hours is great for teeth/bone pain. Good luck - it's not like you're asking for Heroin so be firm and let him know how much you're hurting!!

8. Darvocet
You will become one with the chair. It doesn't upset your stomach the way some narcotics and synthetic narcotics tend to do.

My dentist always gives me tylenol 3s, which work for me. A friend gave me a darvocet once for a gall stone attack, and it worked wonders.

9. dentists can be so irresponsible
Tylenol, besides not working, is hell on your liver. I'm sorry the codeine doesn't work. I think you need to insist on an opiate and if your dentist does not care to file the appropriate DEA paperwork to get you effective painkillers, then you need to find a dentist who will. And you also need to file a letter with your state dental association complaining about your inability to receive effective medication.

The only way we are going to be able to put a stop to the torture is by making our voices heard. I am damn mad about this issue. A friend's father was refused adequate painkillers for stomach cancer for MONTHS while he lay pleading to be put to sleep because of the incredible pain.

I am tired of dentists and doctors being more concerned with avoiding a filing of paperwork than with caring for a patient's severe pain.

10. Vioxx
Edited on Tue Aug-26-03 02:08 PM by LynneSin
And it won't leave you totally wasted for the entire day. I took a Vioxx before my root canal; when the anthesia (sp?) wore off I didn't have any dental pain.

I hate taking pain killers that will leave me nothing more than a wet noodle on the sofa! I took a Vioxx and was able to do work around the house that day (I had taken a vacation day when I had my root canal)
