Howard Dean does not drink alcohol!
That's it, he's off my list.

JK, although it does strike me as kind of peculiar...

Better than a dry drunk anyways.

low self esteem, agitation, the need for guideance.

3. I Don't Drink Alcohol, Either
It can react with the painkillers I take for my back. Does that make me any less of a person???

6. It was a joke...
I was riffing off all of the "X candidate sucks" threads.

I don't drink "much" anymore either. Doesn't really do for me in my 30s what it did for me in my 20s.

5. A lot of Doctors are prone to abuse substances
at least that has been my experience. I don't know if it's the stress of the job or the proximity of medicines but I've known a few really good ones that left this world to early because of the combination of alcohol and drugs. Maybe Dean realized early on he had a problem with it. Or maybe, being a Doctor he doesn't want to pickle his liver.

Clinton wasn't a drinker either, mostly because his step-father was a mean abusive drunk.

8. Dean was a drinker until he got married
He changed because he didn't like how he acted when drunk and he loved his wife.

Good reasons for avoiding the temptation of alcohol.

9. I'm pretty dry, too.
Doesn't react well with all my meds, gives me a horrible headache the next day, and is a crappy way to get what few Carbohydrates I'm allowed, anyway...
I have 2 bottles of booze, both of them more than a year old, barely touched.

I'd rather have Dean than a guy who has to hide at his "ranch" for a month every year because he can't stand being sober anymore.

11. Some of us are allergic
For some people that allergy makes them break out in assholiness.

For me, it is the lack of an amino acid to metabolize the stuff; so it has the same effect as drinking acetone.

It was a weird situation having to explain to the clueless who wanted me to find a "safe" booze: Here, try this one; if it doesn't make you sicker than a dog, we have a winner!

Or the company picnic (for a now-defunct major defense contractor), where the manager was hitting me with "How can you be having fun without a beer?"

As far as other pharmaceuticals, I just figure that anything that deadens the brain is more likely to make me shave my beard, put on a 3-piece suit, and vote Republican. It ain't worth it.

14. EVERYONE HAS A VICE
it's just that when a person does not drink or smoke, you are left to wonder just exactly what that vice might be. :O

16. I don't have alcohol much
One of my medications amplifies its effects so I am uncomfortably drunk after one drink. Since I've started smoking pot, I've found that to be a better intoxicant for me anyways as I get kind of mean when I'm drunk. My dad, who played in a rock band from is late teens to early thirties, claims he has never been drunk or high. I sometimes wonder if he is really telling the truth or he just thought that would encourage my sister and I to stay sober.
