1. What was he nominated for?
That "Whiskey for my men" song? A delightful ditty that celebrates the fun and frolic of vigilante justice and lynching?

Yah. Ok. A real classic. :eyes:

8. Daryl Worley
Nomination for most nauseating couplet of 2003:

And you say you don't care about bin Laden/ Have you forgotten?

Wow, does that song suck! I think the real battle for biggest asshole is a neck-and-neck race between Charlie Daniels and Toby Keith, though. Both make outrageous statements and sing shitty songs (though Daniels does have at least a few decent ones from long, long ago, IMHO), but I might have to give the award to Daniels since he actually seems to think he's intelligent and worth listening to. Ever read any of his lame political commentary?

5. The Chicks should just cut all the pretense and declare themselves
Rock and Roll, or at least 'Alternative'. They are way too good for that inbred, trailer-dwelling, toothless mob.

6. Maybe I'm wrong, but...
Edited on Tue Aug-26-03 09:00 PM by last_texas_dem
...I can't help but think that jackass Toby Keith is peaking right now. The silly "How Do You Like Me Now" and his 9/11 exploitation ditty "Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue" are the only reason he's such a big *star* these days. If I remember correctly, he had lost his record contract prior to the first song I mentioned hitting it big, and he has nowhere to go now but down again. Ten years from now the bulk of his music will be forgotten and, if remembered, only for the lame "redneck rock" that it is. I can't help but think his music will be remembered about as "fondly" ten years from now as Dubya's "misadministration" will. Meanwhile, the Dixie Chicks are releasing some great country music that will still sound as good ten years from now as it does today.

9. "Maybe I'm just getting old, but..."
Where are George Jones, Faron Young, Jim Reeves, Charlie Pride, Charlie Rich, Tammy Wynette and Patsy Cline (et al) when we need 'em now more than ever?
John
Yes, I know most of them are dead. It was a rhetorical question.

12. spot on
He'll drift away as they generally do.

Point is that the Chix probably will too. Another poster suggested that they drop the pretense of "country" which they pretty much did but that gambit will make them disappear even more quickly. The pop crowd never ceases to hunger for the 'next big thing'. And they peak out WITHOUT the recognition that their pinnicle album was supposed to receive.

All because a girl adlibbed the wrong thing.
