Anyone else getting this "Microsoft" email?
Says it's from "Microsoft".
Subject line reads "Use this patch immediately!".
There is an attachment.
Starting about a week ago, I get this 5 or 6 times a day.
I keep deleting it.
Think I read that Microsoft will never send you a patch or fix by email.
Anybody else getting this?

1. if you get emails from microsoft
they will include a link from microsoft which will validate the email. If it doesn't then most likely disregard it.

4. That would be the Dumaru virus
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.dumaru@mm.html

Do not click on that other than to delete it. Do not execute the patch.exe or you will be infected.

6. Microsoft Rule of Thumb
They do not know you exist.

If "Microsoft" is contacting you then it is nearly always going to be some kind of virus or worm.

9. Not entirely true
If you're registered in the Developer Network, or register for their regular dog and pony shows, you will periodically get e-mail. I got some about a month ago re: the Microsoft job opportunities web site.

MS will not send you a patch. They could care less about you. They have your money.

7. The only reason M$ patches something
is because of potential law suits. If it needs to be fixed then they can sell you a new OS. Why fix it without getting paid for it.

The business model is the same as drug dealers these days. They do not want to sell you the product. They want you hooked in to their revenue stream. Therefor they cannot sell you a final product. They have to keep you coming back for more.
