Florida Driving License
I waited from 11 AM until 6 PM at the DMV today to get my license. I also registered to vote. I lied and said that "I was a Republican" but that after the horrible experience there, because Bush was governor, I was switching to "Democrat". Anyway it was really bad. My whole day went down the toilet because of it!

1. Took that long??
I've never moved out of state, but I have spent too many hours at the DMV. But that's just crazyness!

2. It's been 10 years since I have lived in Florida, but
I remember that I would receive a notice in the mail to make an appointment to get my license renewed. And it took no longer than 30 minutes.

3. Yeah
Those who had appointments breezed through. But as someone coming from out of state I didn't know about that.

Another good Clinton law that conservatives dislike.

8. Bro, take it from me
Move North now, before you unpack. That or find a satellite tag office. Oh yeah and if you want to get anything done get there early.

9. Welcome to Florida Carlos!
You'll find that after the first time you'll be able to do all that by mail. Beware of voter registration though! Twice in 6 years I was denied a vote because "we don't have you on record." I have heard the same story from several other Democrats. In the 2000 election local Republicans were at the door passing out literature. I complained but the election officials said "they are not hurting anyone."

Edit: One of us should have thought to tell you about the appointments - sorry about that.

11. Wow. 20 years later, it's still like that.
Wait till the Florida draft board gets a hold of you. They hounded me for years, even though I moved out of the state at 16, and registered in Maryland when I was 17 or 18 or whenever you have to do it.

12. How the hell did that happen?! I went to the Sarasota DMV two weeks ago...
Edited on Wed Aug-27-03 07:55 PM by JanMichael
...and waited 45 minutes!

I used to live in WPB and even there it never took longer than an hour.

Got married three weeks ago, it took 10 minutes in line.

WTF happened to you?!

13. You could have done it on-line!
Edited on Wed Aug-27-03 08:04 PM by Shakeydave
I have the past three times I needed a Florida license! That's why they have the magnetic strip DL's.

On edit: Unless this is your first one! Is it better where you came from on the first time?

14. been in FL 15 years, never took me longer than 45 min.
last renewal took 20 min.

there are certain things in life you need to be the first in line for if you don't want wait for hours, most of them automotive: license, tags, and tires.

15. I can top that!
Here in TX, it took me 6 times to get my license! 6!!

The first time... lemmee see... I think they closed early for the day.

The second time, their computers were down.

The third... fuck if I remember, I think my baby started screaming after we'd been waiting for 1 hour, and it looked like we'd have at least 2 to go.

The fourth... oh, by then, my MO license had expired, so they said I needed a birth certificate as well.

Whoops, guess I lied, I got it on my 5th time. Lucky me.

16. damn man
I just had to retake my drivers' exam (long story) and that only took a little over an hour all told (written, drivers, plus getting the licence). I have never, ever waited that long.
