Is my AP Euro teacher a freeper?
It's only two days into school, but I already suspect this guy is a regular whistle-ass, BushCo sheep. I have two reasons:

  • My brother (a freeper among freepers) said this guy was among his favorite teachers ever. I have never ever heard him compliment a progressive.

  • He questioned a few friends and I who did not stand to Hail the Führer this morning and gave us a VERY dirty look (but some of this may come from his Vietnam veteranhood)

  • Today, he showed us a clip from Braveheart. In case you forgot, this is the movie with Mel Gibson :puke:

Am I just crazy? Or are my fears legitimate? Am I just spoiled by a generally left-wing pack of teachers?

8. yeah braveheart was good.
i don't really care about an actors politics, just their acting. if mel gibson sucked in that movie, i probably wouldn't have enjoyed it.

9. A little problem with the typecasting
I don't think William Wallace was a 5'7" Australian, so the movie loses a lot for me.

3. There's no telling
I've had teachers who seemed that way but turned out to be completely different. i found out today my english 4 teacher completely kicks ass. Shes got boondocks cartoons all over her classroom and supports Dean. We had a really nice discussion today and tomorrow shes lending me all her back issues of progressive populist.

4. That sure as hell wouldn't stand up in court...
If that's all you've got to think he's a member of the Bush Bootlicking Brigade, then perhaps you're just paranoid.

I'm also confused about the "hail the fuhrer" line... I'm also guessing you're referring to the Pledge, though... and I've got nothing against ppl who choose not to recite the Pledge, but confusing it with hailing Adolf Hitler is a bit over the top, doncha think?

5. You'll Know If...
...He lets you argue with him on stuff. I've had some great teachers in the past who've taught with a conservative slant - as long as they encourage debate in class.

11. My world history teacher was like that
You could definitely tell she had a conservative slant in her personal beliefs, though it was more moderate than it could have been. She was a pretty good teacher, and encouraged discussion from everyone. She also didn't bother to comment on my obviously progressive views. Though one student did call me unAmerican :eyes:

6. Braveheart clips in AP European?
That isn't what we did. I don't know if he is a freeper, but it seems that he isn't using serious material. Kleeb's suggestion about WWII won't work so well because WWII is near the end of the year. See what this guy has to say about the Rennaisance or the age of Enlightenment.

7. .....
My teacher wasn't a full out FReeper, he was right-wing, but mainly on foreign policy. He didn't like that I didn't say the pledge (I'm not making a statement, I think it's pointless), either.

10. I apologize for the Führer remark...
I wasn't in a very good mood at all when I posted this. I of course meant the pledge.

I don't recite the pledge to a flag only because I believe that the Neo-Conservative Republican party has wiped their ass with it (as well as the Constitution). Seeing the Bush daughter draping herself in the flag nearly made me vomit.
