college football thread
I know it's thursday and football doesn't start until Saturday but wht the heck, those of us who follow it are already getting antsy for Saturday even if our teams are playing some third rate team

anyhoo, Iowa starts the season at home on Saturday against Miami of OH, hopefully coach Ferentz lets the third stringers in by the third quarter but I will still be watching.

who else is watching their team this weekend?

1. Um, Miami-OH is pretty good
That game won't be easy. A much better Iowa team last year only beat the Redhawks by five, 29-24. Miami has beaten four or five teams from BCS conferences over the last few years, so the Hawkeyes have to be careful in this spot.

My team is UCLA, who is off. But, I will be in Vegas this weekend, watching all the games possible from the MGM sportsbook, and hopefully winning some cash doing it. I get the ESPNGame plan package at home and watch all the games possible every week!

Some doozy games this weekend:

Ohio St-Washington, Auburn-USC, Georgia-Clemson, Oklahoma State-Nebraska, Missouri-Illinois, Colorado-Colorado State...

2. we Cyclone fans hate the Hawks, go Miami!
seriously though it will be interseting to see how Chandler fares against Miami. Miami does have a pretty good squad but I expect the Hawks to roll.

3. There are a couple games tonight
Miami should have little trouble with Louisiana Tech.

I like BYU to roll a depleted Georgia Tech team starting a true freshman at quarterback. Game is in Provo, too.

Maryland will have their hands full at a good Northern Illinois team, one of the MAC favorites. Michael Turner is one heck of a RB, and Maryland started slow last year. Tough opener for the Terps.

Ohio St.- Washington is a good game.

5. The Huskers are playing Oklahoma State this Saturday.
Oklahoma has been getting alot better lately and Nebraska has alot of unknowns with all the new coachs. Don't know what to expect, but I cannot wait for football to start. GO BIG RED!

Saturday, 2:00 PM. ESPN. Should be an interesting season with all the turmoil Alabama's been through. Firing a coach during spring practice and hiring an unknown factor. Mike Shula (son of Don) is a major hunk and should greatly enhance my football watching experiences this fall.

They are playing University of South Florida and Alabama is a 14 point favorite. Our favorite hated rival, Auburn, is playing USC.

11. He's trying to sue Alabama
But no joy...I think he's being eyed for an assistant coaching job in the pros. I'm so glad he's gone. I didn't like the hire to begin with. If they had kept him, all the opposing fans would have shown up at Bryant-Denny with houndstooth garter belts. This is the woman he gave up a lucrative contract for.

PRICELESS!

I'm an NDSU student assistant. I get my paycheck at a football game. Finally, I'm getting paid to do this!! I don't get to travel with the team though, cause we're overstaffed. So I'll also be watching my team on the tube taking on Montana on Sept. 6 on ABC Sports regional coverage (our only regional telecast of the year).

I'm jazzed about going to the LSU opener. Of course, we play a patsy and I'll probably leave after the half if it's a blowout, but it's still football. Hee.

25. The Central Michigan University Chippewas
Open against Michigan at Ann Arbor Saturday. It's on ABC here in MI -- if we can keep it within 28 points, I'll count it up as a moral victory (I HATE moral victories). Michigan is ranked #4 nationally and this is probably going to be a middle-of-the-pack (Mid-American Conference) CMU squad. Still, hope springs eternal.

30. Games tonight!
As I suspected in Post #3, Maryland is struggling....

Northern Illinois 10, Maryland 10, 3rd.

Miami-FL having no trouble with Louisiana Tech, 21-3 at the half. Could be worse, I guess.

A doozy in the MAC, Kent and Akron tied at 24 apiece early third.

My alma mater, Ohio, another MAC school, defeats SE Missouri 17-3. Not a huge margain for playing a I-AA team.

Utah up early on Utah State, 7-0

Georgia Tech-BYU about to kick. (I like BYU easy here)

I love college football!!!!

This is the start of a new Missouri Tiger dynasty. No fifth down, no kicked ball, we are going to take the Big 12. OK, maybe I'm being a little optimistic, but we will be bowl bound for sure, and take out Colorado and Nebraska along the way.

37. Pray to your corn god all you want, it will do you no good
No prayers, no Crouch, no kicked football in the end zone will save you from your inevitable defeat at our hands.

Unfortunately I won't be able to go to the game. I've just bought a house and that is the weekend that we'll be moving. However, I'll throw you a hanky as you pass by on Highway 63:evilgrin:

Hey, its a Missouri thing, we have to be eternal optimists.
