Poll question: Best Big Dog Impersonation on SNL
Though spoofs of presidents Ford and Bush have been fan favorites over the years, President Bill Clinton holds the title for the most impersonators. Vote for your favorite below.

31. LOL
it was when they were "interviewing" people to be the new "Clinton" after Hartman - was it Tim or Tracy who started auditioning and then said "There's no way I'm going to get this, right?" and a voice off-camera said, RIGHT.

35. It was Tim
And going just by voice, his impersonation of Clinton was really pretty good.

13. Hammond's best ever as Big Dog:
"Maybe saying goodbye won't be so hard after all. In my farewell speech the other night, I talked about bringing down the debt, and, you know, about keeping free trade a priority, and I may have bragged a little about making this country a better place. But what I really wanted to say was, 'Suck on it!' 'Suck.. on.. it.' 'Suck on it.' Maybe it's the booze talking, but I'm pretty sure I took more crap from more people than any President in history, and yet I remain the most popular since Roosevelt, so y'all just suck on it!"

(snip)

"The Press can put their dirty microscope on George W. now. See how he likes it. Stick around, I bet you'll find something. I'll start you off: on October 29th, 1973, George W. Bush did three lines of cocaine and joined in an orgy in a public swimming pool in Houston. How do I know? I was there! See, I can say all that stuff now."

28. One of my favorite Will Ferrell/Bush moments
George W. Bush: Hey, Katherine. I've been thinking about my cabinet. Who do you think would make a better Secretary of the Interior - Nolan Ryan or The Rock?

Katherine Harris: < sits him down on the couch > You're thinking too hard, George. < massages his shoulders > You look.. tense.

George W. Bush: Heck, I just can't wait 'til all this President junk is over next week.. so I can go back to hunting and executing.

Katherine Harris: Next week? You know you have to President for four years.

George W. Bush: < angry > What?! < stands > That blows! I'm gonna kill Dick Cheney! He told me it was like winning a fishing contest - you win a trophy, you take your picture, and you're done!

Katherine Harris: Don't worry - it'll go by fast, with me by your side.

Katherine Harris' Thoughts: You've got him right where you want him, Katherine. < laughs >

George W. Bush's Thoughts: The Rock is stronger. But Nolan Ryan's wise. Presidenting is hard!

30. I love the part where he plays with the ball of yarn ...
I swear, it looked like Val Kilmer ("Jeb") and Darrell Hammond ("Al") were on the verge of slipping out of character and laughing.

5. remember right after the 2000 "election"?
Hammond does his bit:

"Al Gore is not president. George Bush is not president. Look, folks, the economy is good, the money's good, the country's good, either one of them is just gonna screw things up! Whether it's fixing the country ... or anything else I might do in my spare time (wink) ... I am one tough act to follow America. Why try?"

6. Hammond is by far the most talented impressionist...
"Gore" - spot on (the debates with him and Farrell are the funniest things ever done on SNL, IMHO.) I seem to have heard that the Gore campaign was reviewing Hammond's debate to refine Gore's performance.

"Sean Connery" on Jeopardy - hilarious.

"Clinton" - the switch between the smile and the "serious face" crack me up (along with the small thumbs up).

11. Sorry, I hate to speak ill of the dead
but I NEVER liked Phil Hartman. He always struck me as someone who always wanted to be anywhere but where he was right then and there. Hammond Cracked me up as the Big Dog. I agree with the previous poster who raved about his impressions.

Holy reality backwards, Batman!!! Phil Hartman was quite possibly the most talented man to ever grace that stage.

19. I'm With You
I always thought he was the glue that held things together. No part too small, too big, too silly, too straight for him to play if that's what the sketch needed.

Over the top and intense (Sinatra), or the milquetoast dad, he could and would do it. He didn't need to be the sun in every sketch, but could be if needed. (The Sinatra group is legendarily funny.)

He is the most versatile and least ego driven performer SNL ever had. (Apologies to Tim Meadows, who's a close second in both regards. His standalone stuff, however, pales in comparison to Phil's best work.)

10. No Dan as Dick?
No Dan Akroyd as Nixon? Those were the funniest skits I had ever seen up to that point in my life. And the addition of Belushi as Kissinger just put the icing on the cake. "Harry, will you get down on your knees with me and pray?". Classic. Just classic.

Oh so close to the real thing.

Phil Hartman always reminded me of everybody's father trying to be hip. I'm sorry he died early and violently. He never got to explore completely his talent, I believe.

Partially sentimental with my vote, but not by much. He was my favorite Clinton on SNL. I still laugh at the McDonald's skit where he uses fries as a metaphor. Then he stuffs his mouth! HAHAHA!!

Phil was immensely talented. I miss him on the Simpsons too.

Hammond's Clinton was trite and cliched, too smarmy - like a Republican's view of him. He was much better as Gore.

24. Hartmans Clinton at McDonalds was classic But Hammond stole the show
I will give Hartman props as Clinton though..I think Hartmans portrayal as the big dog was more sypathetic of the two and Hammonds was more meaner of Bill but Hammond as Bill as pure comic gold

Who very briefly played him on one episode.

However, yeah it's Hammond. By far the best.

33. The two classics: one for Hartman, one for Hammond
The McDonald's skit, with the classic line, "There'll be a LOT of things we won't tell Ms. Clinton about!"

and

Hammond as the Big Dog, post-impeachment but still Prez, "Next time you'd best bring kryptonite!"
