I know that feeling completely! Just yesterday, I launched into a couple of kids in my apartment complex who had their music turned up too loud -- against apartment rules, to be sure, but my response was (like you mentioned) WAY out of proportion to the offense.
I don't know about you, but I have a tremendous amount of generalized anxiety about the direction our nation is taking. And this Moore thing in Alabama has put me on edge: I believe the ultimate outcome of this incident will tell us LOTS about what we can expect in general about how the government and fundy religion will treat us in the future.
That having been said, I feel edgy and marginalized all the time -- at least, as far as federal government and media are concerned. Could that be part of why your anger is surfacing? I believe that's one of the sources of mine.
Anyway, a very wise counselor once told me that when I'm feeling that kind of anxiety and anger, I need to "ground" myself; i.e., go for a walk, a bike ride, pace the halls...do anything to feel the earth with my body and get out of my mind for a few moments. This will give my system a chance to recover and stimulate the endorphins a bit. She said to concentrate on how the earth feels pushing up against my shoes as I walked. I've done this many times; it really works.
If you're in an office situation where you cannot do this, try walking the halls or pacing your office/cubicle -- anything that lets you DO something instead of THINK something. And while doing, follow your breathing in and out; turn off your mind for a few minutes and just FEEL.
Good luck! And you're DEFINITELY not alone.
(Alternatively, it could be simply that Mars is so close, we ALL are feeling a bit warlike. ===>
on edit: Oops. Fixed a smiley!
