Las Vegas Casino Boots Out Singer Ronstadt for Praising Moore

Singer Linda Ronstadt has become the latest celebrity political casualty, after being fired for praising Michael Moore's controversial film Fahrenheit 9/11 during a live performance. Before singing "Desperado" for an encore at Las Vegas' Aladdin hotel and casino on Saturday night, the 58-year-old singer called Moore a "great American patriot" and "someone who is spreading the truth". She also encouraged the audience to see the documentary, which criticizes American President George W Bush. Ronstadt's comments drew loud boos and some of the 4,500 people in attendance stormed out of the theatre. People also tore down concert posters and tossed cocktails into the air. Aladdin president Bill Timmins says, "It was a very ugly scene. She praised him and all of a sudden all bedlam broke loose." Timmins quickly decided Ronstadt had to go - for good. He says he didn't allow Ronstadt back in her luxury suite and she was escorted off the property. He adds, "(Ronstadt's antics) spoiled a wonderful evening for our guests and we had to do something about it. As long as I'm here, she's not going to play." Ronstadt had been booked to play the Aladdin for only one show. Last week, comedienne Whoopi Goldberg was dropped as a spokesperson for diet aid company Slim-Fast after she mocked Bush during a fund-raiser.

I'm sure all of bedlam did not break loose. I'm almost positive there were a few pro-bush idiots in the audience who went nuts. And speaking of escorting someone from from the hotel, why not escort those drunkass patrons who started acting like assholes tossing drinks and breaking stuff just because someone supported Bush.

This is the Aladdin Hotel in Vegas. I'm not a vegas person so I know I won't be going there, but I recommend anyone going to Vegas to boycott this hotel!!!!

1. Plenty of hotels to stay at
other than the Aladdin. For me, it's all about the best price for the rooms.

LS - You HAVE to go to Vegas at some point!

2. I'd rather have my fingernails removed with pliers
I'm so not into that scene, but that's just me. I'd rather go to like the grand canyon or something like that

5. Time for Linda to make a big comeback
She should have a Desperato Tour and tour with the Dixie Chicks and the Cash girl. Hell, bring in the Flying Burrito Brothers and Emmy-lou Harris just for good measure. I mean a big super tour!!!!!! Bring on whomever is still continent and mentally alert from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.

Have a few left wing speakers and make it go a few days and you'd have . . .LEFTSTOCK

6. Bill Bennett must have a lot of friends that stay at the Aladdin.
Sadly they all decided to put on pants and go see Linda Ronstadt.

7. I bet it is because she was the girl Friend of Kerry. (SP) The ex-gov /sen.
I know his name is Kerry but not spelled the same and I can not recall but he was really yapped at when he was a gov. and she was his girl friend. You know that is a NO No with GOP. Stealing money is one thing but sex is really a no no with the Far Right.

8. According to CNN, 25% walked out
That dedication angered some Aladdin guests who spilled drinks, tore down posters and demanded their money back, said casino spokeswoman Sara Gorgon.

"We had quite a scene at the box office," she said.

About a quarter of the 4,500 people in the audience got up and left before the performance had finished, Gorgon said.

That's probably the same amount that booed. According to Moore, about 50% of the audience cheered.

9. Well, that is typical
Chances are, a large part of the audience started clapping and cheering. In typical repug fashion, they couldn't stand the fact that so many people think king George is a fuck-up. So, like they tend to do, the few drunken repugs started throwing things and ripping down posters. When have you ever heard of Republicans being sensible when someone says something they don't agree with? Throwing things, breaking things, yelling, ripping down posters...same ol' same ol' freeper mentality.
I would say that it was probably about 1/8 the audience and the other 1/8 that walked out were just drunk anyway. Of course the figures that we have here is based on an Aladdin employee.

12. If CNN's numbers are reported like their protest numbers....
...the theater was sold out with 4500 tickets which means according to CNN about 1100 people had problems with the show, stormed out, threw drinks, ripped down posters and demanded a refund.

Now I've found that with all the protest I've attended the numbers reported by the news for anti-war/pro-choice usually is about 4xs less than what was really there and the numbers report for the pro-war/anti-choice is usually exaggerated 10 times.

Example: At the March for Choice in April, Headline News reported that there were about 250K pro-choices and 2000 anti-choices. The numbers were really about 1 million pro and 200 anti.

So I'm guess about 100 people got really upset and stormed out of the show, which doesn't really warrent management to do anything (nor for 1100)

14. Question for you...
Example: At the March for Choice in April, Headline News reported that there were about 250K pro-choices and 2000 anti-choices. The numbers were really about 1 million pro and 200 anti.

Where did your numbers come from, and where did CNN's?

16. Not from DC Park Police
They are not allowed to do crowd estimates because of trouble they have received for underestimating crowds (not bad trouble but I suppose just a stink from someone who swore there were more folks there then what the park police counted).

So no one really knows how many people are there except God. But the choice organizers had hundreds of volunteers that day who asked for everyone to sign the list so they could get a count of the number of folks there (we even got a sticker that said I've been counted). So if Choice said there was 1 million folks there I'd say they are about +/- 200k folks.

11. Well, if we don't take away our freedoms, then the terrorists win.
You see, if we take our freedoms away, the terrorists can't do it. Thus, the terrorists can't win.

War on terror - Complete.

13. You know, this is just like the Whoopi Goldberg case.
She was hired to entertain the guests, not make political proclamations. Politics is a highly contentious and polarizing subject right now. The hotel doesn't want pissed-off guests leaving. They want the entertainment to be politically neutral. That is their perogative. They are not expressing right-wing bias for trying to remain neutral.

15. Ok, then answer me this
According to the article she was escorted out of the hotel. She wasn't even allowed to go back to her room and pack her bags or anything.

IF it's the management's right of Aladdin Hotel to stay political neutral then is it also the right to toss entertainers out on their ass without the courtesy of getting their things from the hotel? If there was a threat to Linda for her comments then they could have escorted her to her room and given her an hour so she could properly pack up and leave.

And FINALLY, if Toby Keith or Brittney Spears comes in there and starts spewing right-wing propaganda, will they also be tossed out on their asses?
