I have no objection at all to female-female kissing, I think it's great. Good for Britney and Madonna.

My objection was to the parents who are just now realizing that MTV might not be OK for their children to watch. It's up to the parent, but IMO, MTV teaches young girls (and boys for that matter) that their worth is based on their sexuality, or their money, or the kind of car they drive, or the clothes they wear, etc., etc.

These might not be the lessons we want to teach our children. Call me crazy. Let me be clear- I am not talking about real intimacy or sexuality, homo or hetero. I'm talking about the overall culture of MTV that teaches kids the wrong kinds of lessons and leads young girls to prostitute themselves at the mall so they can buy a Prada bag as Bill Maher talked about last week.

And I said in my original post that Britney and Christina have been objectified as sex objects since they were 16. They are adults now and I think it's great that they are kissing girls- find it attractive myself.

How do these objections turn me into a prude? Believe me, I'm not.

It's entertainment, a distraction - hopefully parents are at least doing their jobs enough for kids to realize that. Any parent (or anyone else, for that matter) who starts pointing their fingers at popular culture instead of themselves shouldn't be parenting, anyway.

Amazing that all of those other kids went to Marilyn Manson concerts and didn't shoot up their schools. Amazing that all the people who saw NATURAL BORN KILLERS didn't go to their neighborhood 7-11s that night and copycat it. Yeah, I'm really taking the position that MTV and the music position are to blame for all of societies ills. :eyes: Whatever. I'm the first person to defend music (or movies) when it comes to that and I would never even suggest such a thing.

All I was saying is that MTV is for adults (or young adults who have been taught that their self-worth comes from the inside) and if you are a concerned parent and you did not know that the content of MTV is highly sexual before last night, you're a moron.

Come on!!!!

MTV culture has been turning children into sex objects for years. If you don't want your kids to grow up with this mindset, don't let them watch it. Cancel the cable, do whatever you have to. But if it takes a female-female kiss to spark your outrage, you've either been asleep, oblivious, negligent in your duties as a parent, or you're a raging hypocrite.

I guess it's too much- The unexpected dirty work of parenting and I'm not talking about changing diapers. I think a lot of people just want a mini-me and don't think the decision all the way through.

I suppose it's the knee-jerk reaction to homosexuality and the subsequent "parental concern" that's bothering me. Weren't these parents concerned about morality before last night? If so, why were they allowing their kids to watch? I don't get it.
