They switched from playing 1000's of diverse songs a day, to the point where you could stay home from school faking illness and never hear the same ARTIST, let alone the same song twice (believe me, I used to do this...that's how much of a rock hound I'vwe always been!), to being the all Skynyrd, Boston, Eagles, and Bob Seger station.. And for diversity, they'll throw in some Bad Company. And they'll play one song by each of those above artists once an hour. No wonder kids today hate rock and roll...If all I knew of rock music was what I heard on a clear channel station, I'd get into rap, too......

...or any of the other songs I posted either. We've got a local indie radio station in town that has an @ss-kicking rock & roll history show every Saturday night. The guy who hosts the show is a major-league expert on the roots of rock & roll. He's big on R&B, doowop and rockabilly from the 1950s. I've learned a lot from him, plus my 8-year-old daughter gets to hear some amazing tunes from 'way back...

20. The early pioneer rock stuff was much heavier and ballsier than what

it soon morphed into. And it was still going strong with Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Eddie Cochran, Buddy Holly. In some ways, the music did die (until the Beatles) when Buddy Holly died (and when Elvis went into the Army). And now we have Clear (Fear) Channel to contend with!! Fuck!!!

When FM radio started in the late sixties, many stations would play an entire side of an album before they ran a commercial....and then the commercial would just last for a minute or so. Also, the majority of the stations were locally owned so you were able to here a wide variety of music...never top 40 on FM.

BTW Bob Dylan has a great song he put on within the last few years called....Times have Changed. Also, if you ever get a chance to see Monte Montgomery in person, don't pass it up. Truly an amazing guitar player. He has a web site that tells about where he will be performing.
