Not your typical cat thread...Martens...anybody know about them?
Up here, they call them "Fisher Cats" and they are all around. I hear them at night near the cabin. Their sound is something of a cross between a cat's wail and a bird's squalk. My friends up here tell me that they are vicious and go after small dogs and almost any cat. I keep my animals in at night. Has anyone had any experience with these critters?

your friends are right. they are viscous beasts. they WILL kill and eat small dogs, cats, smaller animals of all types.

nasty things

The Fisher Cat, one of New Hampshire's most elusive animals, and a ferocious predators of small game. They are very fast on their feet and can turn on a dime. Few ever get the chance to see a fisher, mainly because they are nocturnal, but can be heard calling in the woodlands during their mating season. They have a chilling scream very much like that of high pitched child

3. Fisher cats stalk pets
Edited on Fri Aug-29-03 12:51 PM by frylock
Often called "fisher cats," the animals have long, slender bodies and thick glossy fur, according to a description posted on the state Fish and Game Department Web site. They grow up to 18 pounds and 31/2 feet in length.

However, few get the chance to see the animals up close. Eric Aldrich, a spokesman for the state Fish and Game Department called the nocturnal animal "elusive."

5. Yeppers.. Our furry friends are perpetual toddlers
Never let your pet do anything you would not let a 3 yr old do....
(I suppose there ARE people who let their toddlers out for the night , but we don't like them )
