Why is it that some RAs suck?

RA=Residential Advisor.
Not 2 days into school, I've just been written up for being around alochol. Not an MIP, but just a write up for being around it.
We weren't loud, we werent crazy- they went door to door looking for this.
Stupid RAs...:argh:

2. My RA from 1972-1973 was an ass who grew up to be a HS coach...

7. RA's

My RA freshman year was great. He would wait till the parties were over at 4 or 5 in the morning (intentionally avoiding "catching" us)then he'd come and hang out with me and whoever else was still up. The next year, however, my RA was a dick.

But seriously: at my school, they CLAIM that it's a dry campus, but if you find a good place to hide the booze, then no one's the wiser. They never bother looking around for the stuff.

11. Assuming that you guys were being cool about it

and not being noisy, here's what you do:

Don't talk to the guy ever again, even to acknowledge that he is alive. Leave when he comes into a room, if you can't leave, turn around. Ignore him. Never talk about him.

None of these things are breaking any rules. If some higher up gets on you about it, say nothing.

12. I'm an RA at Virginia Tech

The basic rule is this: If you are in a room with alcohol and everyone is underage, you get written up. Don't freak out. Your still innocent until proven guilty. explain that you didn't consume any at your hearing.

On a side note, Many people think they weren't being loud, but you'd be surprised at what i've seen or heard. Doors open so someone can head to the bathroom and they have a beer in their hand, or you hear the clinking of bottles or cans. If they went door to door, thats wrong. Most likely they were on rounds when they heard yah.

13. RAs

My freshman RA - some jock I pissed off by joking that he wanted to be around sweaty men in rubber because he was studying to be a firefighter.
Sophomore RA - Good friend who talked me into changing dorms so that I could be on his floor to add excitement, which I did. I scared him half to death after I discovered that the halls were so narrow, I could jump in the air and catch myself on the walls (one hand and foot on each wall) and climb up to the top until my back was against the ceiling. I would drop down behind/on him when he came out of the bathroom.
Junior RA - Never really saw him. Another resident and I put up a map of the campus in the lounge with pushpins so that if someone saw him somewhere on campus, they could stick a pin into the corresponding part on the map. It was to study his migration patterns.
Senior RA(s) - There were two on the floor in the dorm I was in - one for each wing. One of them was scared of me (as were members of the student government association) because I was a smart ass. The other one hated my guts because I knew the dorm rule book better than he did. Once I got in trouble, and even though I was technically in the clear, they made me write a one page paper on Martin Luther King, Jr which I hammered out easily in half an hour because I knew enough about him to easily fill at least one page. Then I decided to translate it into Spanish (one of my majors), and in my summing up paragraph, I mentioned something about how King fought against the assholes of his day, who were undoubtedbly RAs when they were in college.

Yes, I was in the dorms all four years of college. I had a full ride scholarship that paid for room and board. :)

15. I can't stand it when RA's

basically don't do anything about loud noise in the halls in the middle of the night. x( I had a huge problem with that last year.

Even worse is when the RA is participating in the noise.

18. Funny story about RA dealing with loud noise

I used to not like this RA my freshmen yr until this one incident handling noise at night.

We had a guy on my floor who used to practice playing his guitar a 4am consistently (he ended up becoming one of my good friends and an off-campus roommate 2 yrs later, but that's another story). We decided to play a prank on him b/c of this. We covered his door with shaving cream, stole his towel and clothes while he was in the shower and waited for him to walk back to his room. At this time the RA showed up and we thought we were going to be fined. But instead he waited with us for him (guitar player) to take his naked walk back to his room. The RA said to us "Well, I didn't see anything...and as for you "guitar player", this will happen everytime you decide to practice at 4am". Had more respect for the guy after that.
