1. Doesn't look too bad right now opihimoimoi
'Course, anything can happen in the next three days. We been pretty lucky though, haven't had a bad storm since Iniki. A hurricane every ten or eleven years in exchange for our regular weather ain't so bad. :)

Hawaiian islands synoptic discussion and guidance
National Weather Service Honolulu HI
830 PM HST Friday Aug 29 2003

Summary...Hurricane Jimena to pass south of the state on Labor Day.
Its periphery will bring strong trade winds..increased rainfall..
and high surf to the islands.

Discussion...high pressure continues to strengthen to the north of
Hawaii and Hurricane Jimena...now 1000 miles eastsoutheast of
The Big Island. This should keep keeping Hurricane Jimena moving on
a more westward path...jimenas center is forecast to pass south of
all islands during Labor Day. Its strongest winds and heaviest
rains are expected to miss the islands. However rainfall and winds
are expected to increase on most islands on Labor Day...The Big
Island which will be the closest to its path will likely have the
most impact. Also swells generated from Jimena should arrive a day
earlier..on Sunday. Before jimenas periphery arrives firmer trade
winds will bring in a few more windward type showers...sunshine may
be less but still plentiful. Matsuda
