UA President Robert Witt fired Mike Price from his position as Alabama head football coach in May. Price had been hired to head the football program after Dennis Franchione left the Capstone for Texas A&M.

In First Church of The Bear terms, Price was named archbishop of the church after Archbishop Franchione turned to the dark side. Later, Pope Robert I dismissed Archbishop Price, and the church turned to Mike Shula to lead it.

All kidding aside, football is religion.

Last September, after hearing descriptions of former Alabama coach Paul "Bear" Bryant that nearly deified him, I created "The First Church of The Bear," a mock religion that does not take the place of one's current religion.

The Tide has had a slate of really, really, bad happenings over the past few years.

But, as we all know here in Bama, all that really matters is that Auburn game outcome. The Tide could have a 3-8 season up to that point, and if they beat Auburn, it would be considered a "rebuilding" year.

Otherwise, Shula will have to look for a new job!
