French Onion Soup
If I use a few cans of Cambell's french onion soup.. how do I do it up resteraunt style with the cheese and bread? What kind of bread/cheese? Do you have to bake it?

You can float the bread and top with grated cheese and microwave it but that doesn't toast the cheese. putting it in an oven safe dish like a deep souffle (in a pan of water) under the broiler for about a minute or so will toast the cheese...or now you can buy a hand held torch to accomplish this.

BTW, if you have a beef broth it's pretty easy to make from scratch too!

So I sez to my late father in law, this would be about 1970,

"Last week I made onion soup from scratch." (I did, too).

We both said in absolute unison,

"it would be a lot easier to make it from onions."

He was a military man. The only things we had in common were his daughter and two very twisted senses of humor.
