What a nice day I had? Anyone else?

It was dark and rainy here. I had heard an interview on NPR of a mystery writer named Ruth Rendell...she sounded facinating so I went out and bought some of her books yesterday. I also learned (thanks to Will) how to use the DVD on my computer for movies. This am I went out and got some movies...the Road to Perdition, for one. I came back, lit a fire and began reading...took a break and made some homemade choc chip cookies...took a break and watched Road to Perdition which I thought was a wonderful movie...took a break and got back to reading...this woman is a good mystery writer...took a break and made some potato salad. Now I've restoked the fire and poured myself a scotch...life is good...today.

I have been reading Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood all day long !! It is a fascinating book . I laid it down because I don't want to finish LOL

I've heard of the Ruth Rendell mysteries but I've never read any.

We had a fire here, too. Way too early for this weather. Makes me wonder how bad the winter will be. Firewood is in short supply, too.

I knitted in between doing some web development and reading DU...and watching the Red Sox. ;)

7. Me!

I had a great day, which is highly, highly unusual for me. What's even better is that it appears I might have a few more good days ahead of me in the near future. Ah, bliss! Somebody wake me up when the other shoe drops.

8. Just got back from having sangria on our Socialist Neighbours' deck

They were even home this time ;) .

Had a great day, watching the ferries come in/go out, making fun of the pResident and takking about gardening. Unfortunately, we have to be on the 7pm ferry, which will be a howling-sunburned-toddler-palooza!
I'd rather watch them than ride them anyday, particularly Labour Day!

Stayed home to give the tourists time to exit the state. Read Dean Koontz's One Door Away from Heaven. Surprisingly good. Just had steak, veggies & Shiraz. Contemplating a touch of chocolate. Very nice, quiet day.

10. The weather was beautiful in Minneapolis

and I did absolutely nothing except read the latest Philip Margolin mystery, surf the Internet, and walk to the drugstore (20 min. each way) to buy some shampoo, which was no chore on such a lovely day, since I got to walk through pleasant residential neighborhoods with lots of trees--and a few Wellstone signs and signs saying "Willing to Pay for a Better Minnesota."

And yesterday, another day of beautiful weather, I auditioned for a really good church choir and got in.

I've known of Ruth Rendell for a long time. She writes both the Inspector Wexford series (the English village updated to contemporary times) and stand-alone books that often tell the "inside story" of a crime. Both are well worth reading.

I've met a lot of mystery writers, since I used to live near a bookstore that specializes in mysteries, but sad to say, Ruth Rendell came off as rather aloof, unlike other equally famous and equally British writers who came through Portland.

11. Life is Good

I spent the day and most of the evening with the sweetest lady on earth, who also happens to be gorgeous and very affectionate. Like Short Bus, I'm feeling like I woke up in that Talking Heads song where you have a wonderful woman and you wonder, "Well, how did I get here?"

I'm in heaven. If it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone.

12. I had a MARVELLOUS day

And an even better evening...I've got a smile on my face that Windex couldn't take off. :D

FIXED MY CAR!! FOR FREE!! I am mo-bile again, which will assuredly help in the job search. YAY!! Then this evening had a splendid chat with a fellow who I think may have serious potential. Funny how these things happen when you least expect them... ;)

13. Oh it was a good day.

I had to work.

Things have been strained at work lately owing to some poopyheads.

Today, the great gods of karmic balance arranged for things to work out in a manner that made me look really, really wonderful; and the poopyheads look like...well...poopyheads.

14. Was a good day

Started out by making the best loaf of bread - ever. And granola and a fruit salad for a family vegan brunch.

Then met up with the other side of the family for dinner - where my husband made homemade ice cream and that was very yummy, too.

Had good family discussions.

Walks in between the rains.

15. A great swim today....

....perfect weather, about 84 degrees. Our apartment pool is mostly unused by others, and is quite lovely surrounded by trees and landscaping. Picked blackberries for making syrup, discovered that BIZ disappears cat puke stains from carpets in an eyewink, had Chinese for lunch in the Golden Coin where the overhead music sounded like an Asian pipe band playing easy-listening hits of the seventies. Ha, that was eerie. Stayed away from the 24 marathon, knowing that if I started on it, I would do nothing else. Now there's still time to do the dishes and pack some eBay items for mailing tomorrow!

16. I did that too!

the DVD part that is. It was a gloomy rainy day here on the Texas coast. I drove to my daughter's house to visit. While there I popped my Two Towers DVD in her computer and learned how to make screen caps. Now I'm trying to work on a web page for my screen caps and watch Rob Roy at the same time. A margarita would be good right now.

17. I did that too!

The potato salad. It was gross, like all my culinary endeavors, but the kid had fun.
Then I sanded a bedroom floor. Ate a bag of storebought coconut choc chip cookies. Read "The Da Vinci Code" (unoriginal through and through). Read "1421: The Year China Discovered America" (flawed). Reread Catton's "Reflections On the Civil War" :thumbsup:
Pried open a can of polyurethane and...called it a day :)

They're usually made really well, so look out for them on cable if you have it.
