The Independent Film Channel Will Not Let Me Go To Sleep
I have to open the store at five am tommorrow, and I should be in bed, but I stayed up to watch A Decade Under The Influence. NOW my favorite western ever, The Wild Bunch, is on. How can I say no to Warren Oates?

2. one movie with Warren Oates should be refused
"The Cockfighter" - a frightening Roger Corman production.

a tragic mistake, thinking there would be a market for cockfighting movies. Or was he merely 43965349076 years ahead of his time...

4. He was ahead of his time (it's the only movie that Corman ever lost money
I love "Cockfighter" (AKA 'Born To Kill") Oates is fantastic as Frank Mansfield. The novel by the great Charles Willeford is also first-rate. However, I do agree with you, why did Corman and Monte Hellman ever think there was a market for a cockfighting movie? Maybe foreign sales? I dunno...

5. I still haven't seen Cockfighter
I was able to rationalize buying Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia, but I can't rationalize spending what little money I have on a movie about cockfighting, regardless of whether or not Warren Oates is in it.

6. At least find the novel (along with anything else by Willeford)
He is (I know this is considered heresy) much better than Jim Thompson.
