SOMEONE EXPLAIN THE APPEAL OF JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE TO ME
I couldn't sleep last night and found myself watching MTV early this morning. I saw him singing SENORITA or something like that. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. Who the F*** BUYS THIS CRAP????? WHY is he so popular? HE SUCKS AND HE ISN'T THE LEAST BIT ATTRACTIVE.

I'll admit I'm old (RELATIVELY) but I don't think that explains all of it. I JUST DON'T F***ING GET IT.

And WHAT is with all the chronic BUMPING AND GRINDING on videos? One video looked and sounded much like the next. No imagination whatsoever. *shudder*

:O

1. Blue eyed soul, LOL.
Edited on Wed Sep-03-03 10:27 AM by tjdee
It's that all the teenyboppers who were into 'Nsync are getting older, but Justin can actually carry a tune by himself, can do what the choreographers tell him, and is capitalizing on being R&B lite.

It's the same appeal that Donny Osmond, Elvis had, Tom Jones, etc.

I think he's adorable. He's very young and immature though. But he's a cutie pie.

It's about the same thing.

Nail their fatass 'Merkans asses to their couches
Forcefeed them JT

It's the creation of a celebrity. Much like Madonna.

No there is no talent there and, as a guy, I can't understand why anyone would think he is anything but ordinary looking. Oh I forgot they don't think that would mess up the celebrity making machinery.

7. You saw my generation's cultural contribution
Sigh. I'm nineteen, but watching MTV and seeing all of this crap makes me feel like I'm 40. I look at all the talent-less, at all the mindless airfucking, and wonder how the hell anyone my age can stomach the fact that this is considered OUR music. I just cannot see myself thinking about Justin Timberlake, or Britney Spears, or that Lizzie McGuire girl, and coming to the conclusion that these are the voices of a generation.

12. I'm gonna have to admit a guilty pleasure here...
I can handle Justin Timberlake once in a while. He's got some fantastic producers making tracks for him. I suppose it doesn't really make a difference who's fronting the music, but the producers making those tracks are hot shit. Personally, I'd rather hear JT sing than Britney Spears...just marginally though.

I never thought I'd be the person defending Justin Timberlake. lol. I'm not really defending him vehemently though...

Well you know, different strokes....

I must be getting old 'cause I'm thinking 'no', and think this may hold true for other 'corporate cloned' groups, too.

Seems 'real' musicians evolve, and we get to witness that growth/change ... cookie cut-outs are just that ... the hair-do might change ...

83. Not to defend Justin Timberlake but people said the same about
The Monkees and they are popular to this day. A few Monkees songs:

Last Train to Clarksville
I'm a Believer
Steppin Stone (covered by the Sex Pistols no less)
Mary Mary

My fave Monkees songs are mostly those sung by Micky Dolenz...
Goin Down
Randy Scouse Git
Zor and Zam

I was a hardcore Monkees fan in the 80s following the marathons they had on MTV. I then discovered the Grateful Dead and that is all she wrote....

My son's girlfriend bought tickets for Justin's concert in November for their 1 year 'anniversary'......

I admit, I watched his latest video and wondered what all the fuss was about too....but he is a cute little guy IMO.....

What raises MY eyebrows is a British talk show I saw a few months ago where some of the middle aged female guests were talking about how HOT Justin Timberlake was, and how if only they were a 'little' younger......!!!!

Different preferences and tastes, for sure.

want to be with him - lol. Don't you know? It's called "P-u-b-l-i-c-i-t-y" What he's got is enormous FAME and being seen with him gets them in the public eye. Of course they want to be seen with the most popular male pop icon at the moment. It's a great career move. That's all. Same way Demi hooking up with Kutcher it's a total career move. For both of them. (though I'd take Kutcher too - now there's a good looking guy!) You notice that the only one who stayed with him very long though was Britney - lol. Then again, I never thought of her as being very intelligent in the first place.

And I was being honest. I don't find him attractive in any way shape or form.

Just because of this one move. It's not uncommon to want to be with the most popular guy. I've always found Alyssa to be very attractive, but I agree that Britney doesn't seem too bright.

I always have found Justin to have a too-nasal voice - and his music aspires to be like Michael Jackson's, but comes off as cheap immitation.

Good to see you, too. How is everything?

I can forgive some things, but there are certain things that celebs do that I consider turn-offs. IMO celebrity crushes are shallow instead since I'll never know the people - but they are still fun to have.

Maybe unrealistic but not shallow. :D

In any case, I'll continue to drool over Johnny Depp, shallow or not!! Now there's someone worth worshipping - lol. Justin Timberlake dreams of being half the man he is; of being half as cool as he is and of having half the talent he has.

Everything's fine. Thanks for asking. :-)

because they are unrealistic and you don't know the celebs, all celeb crushes are shallow in a way - but they are natural and I'm proud to have all of mine, too. :)

I'm a man, so I can only comment on talent with Johnny - I fully agree that he has a lot more talent with Justin.

37. He looks like the sax player in my band...
...and everybody loves my band, right? (http://www.newkings.com)

Actually, our sax player has appeared on "Homicide" and in an MTV promo (he was the guy that got a hold of some bad music videos).

at the MTV awards, when his video won over Johnny's. Anyone who grows up listening to Johnny Cash is okay in my book.

71. It's true
Elvis had no more talent than most of the artist today. His voice was okay and he did the hip thing. They have been recycling the same entertainment for years. Same stuff different generation.

Edited on Wed Sep-03-03 06:54 PM by Skittles
you can compare that little f***ing twerp Timberlake to David Cassidy or Donny Osmond but NOT ELIVS PRESLEY. Like them, Timberlake is a fad whose music will be forgotten in a few years. Elvis will be heard long, long after you and I are both gone. You have NO IDEA what you are talking about.

81. So how is he different than Timberlake
Edited on Wed Sep-03-03 07:05 PM by Alenne
The only difference is you like Elvis and you don't like Justin Timberlake.

Elvis was the popstar of his time. I think both Elvis and Justin are overrated. You do what people do in other generations. You pretend that somehow the people who made music when you were growing were great and the music people listen to now is crap. I say they are no different.

84. Elvis has a soulful voice
Edited on Wed Sep-03-03 08:38 PM by mvd
and Justin doesn't. Elvis also had a better feel for material.

We are so far apart here that we might as well drop it. :)

BTW, this is coming from someone who enjoys quite a bit of today's music.

89. I agree to dropping it because
I don't think there was anything soulful about Elvis or his voice. But he was popular for the same reason Justin is popular.

92. Elvis also changed history - certainly musical, definitely cultural, and
arguably social....

There is a good reason why he's still being talked about and still, as Mojo Nixon pointed out, everywhere. Ditto the Beatles.

Elvis did a lot more than just look good and wiggle.
