Poll question: Worst Song Ever?
I have a feeling including "Courtesy Of The Red White And Blue" unfairly skews the results, but then again, I do fucking hate that song.

45. Have You Forgotten?
Beats "God Bless the USA" any day. GBtUSA can at least be used generically, in Chevy truck ads, or whatever; HYF was written specifically to silence critics of the war in Iraq. It (HYF) wasn't even that well written.

31. Muskrat Love
BTW, I think Eric Carmen is way overrated is a bad artist. I don't really think he's any worse than a mediocre combination of 70's pop rock with a feint towards art rock and a feint towards death pop.

If you want to go after slobbering lyrics, Terry Jacks and Gilbert O'Sullivan leave you in the dust. The Raspberries' stuff merely is an example of a band running on 3/4 of potential. At their best, they sound like McCartney from the same era, and that's not too bad.

Know-nothing country is merely that. Being as the national country scene is so horrendous, it does no particular violence that a bad rock song does. If y'all want to come to Texas, we have a good country scene, with Willie, and also with Wes Clark's cousin.

42. Cold Turkey - Yoko Ono
One, two, three, four!

The temp’rature’s risin’, fever is high,
Can’t see no future, can’t see no sky.

My feet are so heavy, so is my head,
I wish I was a baby, I wish I was dead.

Cold turkey has got me on the run.

My body is aching, goose pimple bone.
Can’t see nobody, leave me alone.

Eyes are wide open, so is my head,
There’ s one thing I’m sure of,
I’m in at the deep freeze.

Cold turkey has got me on the run.

Aaahh -

Thirty-six hours rollin’ in pain,
Prayin’ to someone, free me again.

Oh, I’ll be a good boy, make, make me well,
I’ll give you anything, get me out of this hell.

Well, cold turkey has got me on the run.

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh,
Oh, oh.

79. Fetal Charlene
"Never Been to Me" was initially released in the early 1970s. It was kind of nice, a slow song, kind of folksy, sentimental, a little sexist but it didn't push it.

In 1980, Charlene dropped her last name and the song was re-done as an overproduced, overwrought anti-abortion anthem. It made me viscerally ill to listen to it, even before the "heart rendering" speech about being pregnant.

"Muskrat Love" was also a decent song before the Captain and Tenille put their own dubious stamp on it.

I always did like "Seasons in the Sun", but the original, "Le Moribond," is much better, even if you are able to understand French.

68. Toby Keith, Daryl Worley, Clint Black...
At the moment, all three of these "artist"s' jingoistic songs would be up there as the worst for me. Worley's is possibly the worst, since it uses 9-11 to argue for fighting Iraq, but Toby Keith comes across to me as a such a loathsome individual that I think he might have to get the edge.

In terms of other songs mentioned on the poll and thread, I really like Journey, the Raspberries/Eric Carmen, and BOTH "The Night Chicago Died" AND "Billy- Don't be a Hero", FWIW. I'm no authority on good taste, but just sticking up for some of my, in my opinion, unjustifiably maligned favorites. :-)

71. "From A Distance"
sung by Bette Midler, I think, and some others.

Popular with the Fundie Praise crowd, but it's bad theology as well as being incredibly sappy.

Followed closely by "Tallahatchee Bridge".

82. Ballad of the Green Berets
Number one right-wing stinkeroo of all time. First runner-up has to be "Okie from Misquoekee".

As a personal quirk, I find "Midnight on the Oasis", "Brandy" and "She's a Lady" more than usually annoying.

Kiss's "Destroyer" album is a highlight of my 70's rock youth. Produced by none other than the mighty Bob Ezrin. Their first two "Alive" albums are worth their weight in cheese. :-)
