Desperately seeking Spanish speakers
Edited on Wed Sep-03-03 08:34 PM by breezygirl
Hi guys. Breezy needs some help with her spanish homework. How do you say "Mockingbird" and "Wrath?" I want to write some books I like in Spanish if I can. I know "Mantar a una" whatever and "Las Uvas de" so-and-so.

Any help?

Muchas gracias!

Breezy (Marisol es mi nombre de espanol)

edit(twice): spelling. I type too fast, heh, heh.

3. Mockingbird is not "burlón"...
Edited on Wed Sep-03-03 08:43 PM by arcos
At least not if you are trying to write "To Kill a Mockingbird".

mockinbird = ruiseñor

on edit: The full title would be "Matar a un ruiseñor"

5. the Velazquez dictionary
defines ruisenor as a nightingale. Personally, we use a word that i can't find in said dictionary for mockingbird,"chonte" , but these are pocho words from LA. Mirlo Burlon translates to mocking thrush.
First word in my dictionary is (Orn.) Cercion';also sinsonte(mex) is translated in Velazquez as mockingbird from aztec Censontli. My chonte word probably comes from this sinsonte word

8. Hey Breezy
the Spanish translation of Mockingbird is Sinsonte or pajaro burlon
for Wrath it could be furia, ira, or furioso.

PEACE

9. BUENAS SUERTE PERO VAYA CON CUIDADO.
The Spanish word for the English mockingbird is sinsonte and that for wrath is ira. Good luck in writing your books, but be careful. Flitting between languages is more than making one for one substitutions of equivalent words. There are no equivalents for a great many words in both English and Spanish, and many which might seem to be convey entirely different meanings and concepts. You can get into trouble. Languages are the carriers of cultures and can only really be understood from within the one from which they originate. I have personally found the best and perhaps only way for a natural English speaker to learn the use of Spanish is neither from teachers nor books. Rather it is the same method a baby utilizes, simply use the language among those with whom it is natural.
