1. The new Soldier Field, I presume?
Edited on Thu Sep-04-03 09:49 AM by Richardo
...or will it be something like the "Marshall Fields Soldier Field"?

I think I'd like it - if it were a brand new stadium, but as a renovated Soldier Field? I don't think so. The old SF had such a classic, distinctive personality. I see they did retain the columns (collonade?) out front, but still....

Think if they did something like this to Wrigley.

7. Old Soldier Field did have personality, but..............

It was a very cold, dank place. The restrooms were abysmal. And it was surrounded by asphalt parking lots.

My fondest memory was shaking the hand of the "real" Mayor Daley at the 1972 Prep Bowl (best Catholic League football team against the best Public League team). So at least I have a nice memory to fall back on.

It was either that, or seeing a guy in a Packer t-shirt get hit over the head with one of those 1 gallon jars of mustard, back when the the jars were still made of glass. Well, I guess that wasn't a fond memory, but it will be etched in my mind forever. OUCH.

3. I really hate to say this, because I am a preservationist...
..but I think the old facades just look WRONG with the new stadium. If the designers couldn't incorporate that traditional feel into the new stadium, then the facades should have been taken down. I think the stadium is OK on its own, although "art deco toilet bowl" is the first thing that comes to mind. :D

11. It's a top of the line bidet.
And the old Soldier Field was a piss trough.

It's easy to pine for the old columns but really, the new stadium is 1000% better. I wasn't kidding in the thread above when I said there's gonna be an orchard and a sledding hill and a children's garden.

The area around the new stadium, the Shedd Aquarium and the Field Museum is now referred to as "Museum Campus" and is actually quite lovely.
