Red wasp sting.

Those very words are terrifying. Over the weekend I was repairing an old cellar door and I was stung twice on my side. I went on working for a few more minutes beating some old rotten boards out and I was stung twice on the soft part of my upper lip. I finally found the nest hidden close to where I was working. I finished them off with some wasp- hornet spray. By the time I went to show my wife, she gasped in horror at the swelling that had taken place. She fixed an ice pack for me and ran a whirlpool tub for me. In the tub the pain was intense for about 10 minutes. After I got out of tub and looked in mirror I ciuld'nt help but laugh out loud at my swollen face. Going down the hallway I met my wife coming to meet me and she laughed out loud at my appearance. I told her to go ahead and get it out of her system which made her laugh harder. She told me later that she was laughing more at something I had said, which was, honey you will have bring a gunny sack to be able to go to bed with me. I can laugh about the experience now, but it "was" pretty scary. Anyone else have have similar stories?

1. You went back to work after the first sting?

You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din. I'm completely, irrationally terrified of things that fly and sting. So, here's a funny story that I've already told on DU:

I was having lunch at a sidewalk cafe while sitting in one of those cheap plastic chairs that you see all over the place nowadays. I was sitting next to a big picture window, when all of a sudden, bang!, this huge black bumblebee hits the window right next to my head. So, I jump back in my chair, which scoots back, and the leg catches on a crack in the sidewalk, and I go straight back and land flat on my back, in front of dozens of passersby. My daughter, who was around 16 at the time, looks down at me and says "It's just a bee, Dad".

letter bugger got up the back of my shirt and hit me right in the middle, where I couldn't reach it.

3. Hornets and Wasps

The last two weeks in our second floor. My son and family came back from vacation and opened their bedroom door to a bunch flying around their room. Thought they got all of them. She went to work, he went to sleep and was down here at 3:30 am with 3 stings while he was sleeping. I thought the darn things slept at night. We are down about 4 inches of rain this summer and I know that the hornets (yellowjackets) become meat eating this time of year just prior to breeding. I have been trying to find an exterminator with a ladder to spray and close up the hole they are using near the roof peak. So far no luck.

Meanwhile we had been all sleeping everywhere on the first floor until Her Highness decided that I couldn't take the baby over to my parents during the day sho she could sleep and she thought he was being too noisy here because I was spoiling him. (He was behaving normally.) It was just happening during her sleep cycle and she couldn't or wouldn't "get" it. He is a real mellow, happy baby. So she is at her mother's house for the week. She thought her brother who hasn't worked all summer would watch him while she slept. That lasted one day and he suddenly found a job. She is not hopeless she will get it eventually and we will work it out but it sure has been quite a stressful couple of weeks.

I'll check back to see if anyone has any good ideas on how to get rid of them.
