Holidays and Wal-Mart *******A RANT********
Maybe it's just me, and if it is, fine let me know. Here's what happened.

So I go to Wal-Mart to buy 3 lemons and a bag of ice. Walking in I see they have the Halloween candy out, so I think to myself, jeez, lemme check out the new Halloween decorations.

Couldn't find any. So I go over to the Garden Center thinking it's seasonal stuff. No Halloween decorations. But... I can purchase my choice of three sizes of wireframed light up reindeer. Two sizes of wireframed light up outdoor christmas trees.

But no bags of cobwebs.

I can buy anywhere from a 12 inch prelit artificial indoor christmas trees to a 9 foot you decorate it yourself monster. I can purchase plastic Santa'a and candlesticks and Nutcracker Suite Wooden soldiers.

But I can't find a plastic cauldron anywhere.

I can buy twinkle lights, icicle lights, bubble lights, C-4 lights, C-6 lights, garland, balls and tree skirts.

But I can't find a so much as a cardboard window dressing that say BOO on it.

I can buy wrapping paper, bows, ribbons, christmas cards, gift tags and gift bags.

But I can't find a candy bowl with the battery operated hand in it. I can't find the plastic witch flying into a tree. I can't find a fake pumpkin. I can't find a real pumpin.

So I figure maybe I'm in the wrong area. I ask the girl, "can you tell me where the Halloween decorations are"? She looks at me, and ROLLS HER EYES and says, "it's too early for those to be out, as soon as we clear all of the back to school stuff, they'll be put out". So I jokinly say "so I can decorate my house for Christmas, but I can't buy a plastic witch flying into a wall". She comes back, with attitude and says, "well it's too early to put holiday stuff out" standing in the middle of damn Christmas Central at the Wal-Mart Garden Center. I just shook my head and walked away.

Now maybe it's just me, but is there any wonder why Christmas sucks so much for so many people? Maybe it's because the Christmas season now lasts 4 months. I'm sorry but having Christmas stuff out now is just ridiculous.

I'll do my usual Christmas light up on Thanksgiving night. I'll be decking the halls and baking Christmas cookies. But I swear, if I hear those damn dogs barking out Jungle Bells one day before December 1st... there's gonna be trouble...

4. HAHAHAHA..... funny story. #1, please consider not shopping at Wal-Mart..
if you can. There are numerous posts here explaining their bad business practices and raping the local communities so I won't go into details.

#2. I saw the same thing at Costco the other day, Christmas shit everywhere.

The reason is that Christmas has become a retail stores cash crop, the big payday. As such, Christmas has lost its true meaning and joy, IMO.

Halloween is my favorite holiday. I can't wait though until consumerism ruins this beloved pagan holiday, if it hasn't already. *sighs*

6. Actually, I view the classic Singing Dogs version of Jingle Bells . . .
Edited on Wed Sep-08-04 05:04 PM by hatrack
as one of the few remaining bright spots in a remorseless cheery juggernaut of festive wallet-flogging.

After the post-Thanksgiving avalanche, in which hapless shoppers are cast before the jolly wheels of which bear the crushing weight of both Santa and retail industry analysts' expectations, their screams drowned by 130-decibel piped-in joy, I rather look forward to "Woof-woof-woof! Woof-woof-woof! Woof-woof-woof-woof-woof!"

7. THANKS A LOT. NOW I have to worry about what COLOR theme I'm
going to use for XMAS this year, NOW, IN September, thanks to YOUR NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED to buy 3 lemons and a bag of ice.

I BLAME YOU.

Thank goodness I'm not voting for CLINTON in November.
