Computer question..XP Microsoft

At approx. the same time every day (4 p.m & 9 p.m) I am disconnected from the internet right in the middle of whatever I might be doing. My internet provider says not their problem, my computer guy says not his problem..can anyone suggest any reason this might be happening.:argh:

1. Do you use a dial-up connection?

It might be an issue with your local phone lines/service.

Thanks for help on my XP disconnect problems. I use a dial up connection...when I am disconnected it automatically redials and I get back on....every time I am on it ALWAYS disconnects me at approx. 4 p.m. and if I am still on at 9 p.m. it does it again. I don't have hospital and banks, etc. closeby that would cause the problem...I am at 56K speed. It might be a telephone problem and I will certainly check with them....thanks again

Are you connecting via a dial up modem? DSL? or cable modem?

How do you get back on? Reboot?

Check your IP address and see when it's set for renewal. You might have a short lease on an IP address and for some reason it's not able to renew itself. That might be due to a firewall.

3. if it is DSL

sometimes being located near a hospital or bank that does large transfers of data can eat into your bandwidth and cause you to loser your signal. they usually do these transfers at certain times as far as i understand. if there is a consitent schedule to it, you should be able to figure out what it is.

has it always happened and if not when did it start.

"from 4 to 9 pm"
That sounds like folks are coming home from work and hooking up to the net, causing a bottle neck somewhere in the system.

Does it happen (on a regular basis) anytime else?

Also, at what speed are you normally hooked up and does the speed decrease at those hours ? (4 to 9)
