Live without dead time

I was going to ask a question, but decided to check for myself and got my answers, so I'll tell you about something instead:

The July issue of Adbusters had a CD that I finally got around to playing, and I have to say that it is impressive. It's a mix by DJ Spooky (about whom I know nothing), and the CD just really sucked me in.

Has anyone else heard this CD/bought this magazine?

Check out Saul Williams' "Not In Our Name Pledge of Resistance" (mp3 - 3.6MB) track, for example.

(I have to admit that I was hoping the tracks on the CD were royalty-free because some of them would have been great filler music for the Guy James Show's dead-air time on the webcasts.)

1. Please explain that magazine

I read through it on the newstand a few months ago and had no idea what it was about...not a clue.

Is it a parody?

2. I have slightly mixed feelings about the mag

I usually get annoyed with magazines that try to be so "hip" that they're virtually unreadable, but I've found Adbusters' twists on popular Western culture and glimpses into other cultures to be pretty thought-provoking. While there are usually some short essays in each issue, the magazine is very image-intensive -- it seems to try to reach out at a more basic level, to go for emotional impact more than cerebral impact.

Or maybe it's just a magazine for the post-literate world. Or maybe I'm just getting used to it. But usually there's one or two things in each issue that really hit me.
