Do you find it sexy when a person has strong political viewpoints?
Does it matter what side they are on?

I was talking to a single girlfriend who is using match.com. She said she has a clause on her profile that anyone other than liberals need not apply.

At first, she was going to include moderates or apoliticals. But then she decided forget it. She finds a man with liberal leanings to be hothothot, why deny it? Why waste her time on someone who doesn't even know who's running in the presidential race when socio-political issues are such a huge part of her life?

I have to say, I thought she was foolish to cut out a huge chunk of potential guys, but I am seeing her point of view now. If I were single, I know I would find a guy with strong liberal leanings to be WAY hotter than a guy who is just middle of the road or apolitical.

How about you???

2. I CANNOT be with anyone but a liberal...I am not closed minded
and have friends who are not liberal but the person I share my life with must have core values close to my own....and politic really does cut to the core of who we are as world citizens..besides, I am really good in bed and don't want to do conservatives any favors

I had to look at your profile because I suddenly realized I didn't know what gender you were!

I'm married to a huge flaming liberal. We were liberal before we knew we were liberal. I could NOT have it any other way.

Question: not to turn this into a locked thread, but how do you know? That you are good?

39. I feel the same way.
It's something that is core to who I am and my values. I'm a poster who who ends up not contributing a lot on the way of politics, but in a sense, it's so core to who I am for so long, that with many of these subtle points, I have no need to argue. I'd have to say that that has been one sort of light in a lot of darkness in my marriage is that we did both have similar and very strong political beliefs. It always allowed for good conversations despite the personality clashes. Still does in a sense, keeping us able to maintain a friendship and level of communication despite the muck were currently dealing with. We're great with abstract concepts, just not with each other.
I can't imagine this ever being something I'd be willing to compromise on either.

6. my gf
is liberal in her views, but doesn't really care much to discuss it as much as i do. she is voting for kerry and hates bush, but you wouldn't really hear her bring it up. so political interest is a plus for me, but not necissary.

if the question is would i date a replublican, then the answer is definatley no. i don't find myself wanting to even talk to them lately, really.

21. There's almost no way that would be, though.
If you look at my posts, you'll find I give people on the left who disagree with me too much of a hard time too. Even on little things.

Part of it I think is that I'm really moderate, and I get kind of weirded out by people who get way too shrill about politics. People I meet at Kerry meetups and what not (actually the Dean meetups I used to go to were worse for that ha).

10. I try to leave politics out of sex....
Unless it enhances the mood (Like the time I sang the Star Spangled Banner to my right-wing nut-job one night lover! Worked her right outta her panties!) I have found that Greenies and Progressives smell nicer and taste better. (All natural, no preservatives.) What the heck, a broken-down old hound-dog can't be too choosy.....

14. Here's how I see it.
How does someone think they would be able to cultivate a relationship with someone with no interest in or viepoints completely counter to something they feel so passionately about? If they're looking for a one-night stand that's one thing but a relationship? I personally don't understand how it can be done. People use the example of Carville and Matalan...I don't think they're as polar-opposite as they come across in public. I don't think Matalan's quite as conservative as the face she puts on. Have you noticed that she's not been around as much since the real radical right-wingers started running the show. I remember watching this show she had on cable years ago with her and Dee-Dee Myers. I was shocked at how much more reasonably she came across than she did when doing pundit duty.

I don't care HOW toned down she seems to have gotten. And I've caught her on MTP, if that's toned down, DAMN.

I look at him and I think "uck--HOW Carville? HOW??? She insults everything you believe in!"

And how in the world are they raising their daughters? To be totally apolitical? Or 50/50? I know they can make up their own minds, especially as they get older, but THAT will be interesting to see.

All I can think is, that's gotta be some hot sex.

Oh God. GET THE CLOROX. Pour it in my eyes!

17. im with your friend. i couldnt even imagine wanting to
date someone who was apolitical or right wing. i have strong feelings about things, including politics, and there was a guy who was super fine but he was more apathetic than i could deal with.

i would imagine its easier to meet someone through a website. because when you see someone who youre attracted to and then find out they see the world differently, thats harder.
not that everyone has to feel the same way but for me, i want someone who knows their stuff and feels the passion

25. it depends
for casual sex I don't mind much if they are apathetic about politics, but the interest wanes quickly. I can't fall in love with a Republican though, once I almost did, but then he revealed that he was a "social liberal and economic conservative" (god I hate that expression, why not just say that money is your priority?) and that he voted for Bush (he whispered this, I wasn't sure I heard right and said aghast "You did what??" that killed it for me.

sidenote-a study a class of mine did a few years ago found (supporting previous research) that the main factor that draws people together long-term is similar values, much more important than other things in common, such as taste in movies or restaurants.

But yes, I'd find it a little sexy if someone DISAGREED with me politically. I've dated super liberal girls and super conservative girls, As long as I like them as a person (are they cute, funny, friendly...if so, no problem here) then I am good to go.

32. I married a man who's conservative
I still find him remarkably sexy, though.

And we do have scintillating political conversation.

I like it. Being with someone who agreed with me on politics all the time would end up being like I was in an echo chamber. Boring.

I know his vote ends up cancelling out mine, but then mine cancels out his, too.

But, there should always be a few minor areas of contention to spice things up.

Someone that holds opposing views to mine would not seem attractive to me, regardless of how they look.

41. Absolutely, and it's a prerequisite now.
My ex was rather apolitical and that glazed look on her face when I would talk about important matters just turned me off completely.

Now I'm with a kindred spirit, kindred mind, kindred soul... who inspires me to care even MORE than I did before about the important things in life.

As for hotness... oh YES... a brilliant mind is always hot... and when it belongs to an attractive, sensitive, caring and compassionate person... mmmmmm
