1. No...

...but that's what's so great about music: it's purely a personal experience! Hey, it's entirely possible that some of my favorite artists would end up in your Dumpster. And there's nothing wrong with that!

By the way, I like all the songs in yout top three. I just wouldn't rank them as highly as you did!

3. That's a good question

I honestly couldn't tell you what my all-time top three is. Since my musical tastes are all over the map, it's just too difficult a task to try to narrow them down that severely.

However, I once attempted to come up with a list of my all-time favorite records of the soul era. Unfortunately, for reasons not dissimilar to what I said above, I never got past #8. But here's what I came up with:

1. DARK END OF THE STREET, James Carr (1967)
2. BRING IT UP, James Brown & The Famous Flames (1967)
3. THINK, Aretha Franklin (1968)
4. WHAT'S GOING ON, Marvin Gaye (1971)
5. I CAN'T TURN YOU LOOSE, Otis Redding (1966)
6. WISH SOMEONE WOULD CARE, Irma Thomas
7. A CHANGE IS GONNA COME, Sam Cooke (1965)
8. BERNADETTE, The Four Tops (1967)

10. Speaking of "Night Train"...

...here's all the versions of that song that I can name:

Jimmy Forrest (1952)
The Four Blazes (1952)
Rusty Bryant's "All Night Long" (1954)
Billy Vaughn (circa 1956)
The Viscounts (1960)
Jerry Murad's Harmonicats (1960)
James Brown (1962)
The Ventures (circa 1964)

And of course, the song that inspired it: Duke Ellington's "Happy-Go-Lucky Local."

Any more versions of "Night Train" that y'all can come up with?

5. Since we're listin' ... here's mine
I like "Imagine"...a lot. It's not even the genre I usually like, but I agree it's an incredible song. I do like a lot of nighttrain's songs, though. Here's mine:

1. Trouble Man - Marvin Gaye
2. You Oughta Be With Me - Al Green
3. Call Me - Al Green
4. Footsteps In The Dark - Isley Brothers
5. For The Love - Isley Brothers
6. Latest Greatest Inspiration - Teddy Pendergrass
7. Inner City Blues - Marvin Gaye
8. Bird in the Hand - Ice Cube (IS WORTH MORE THAN A BUSH!!)
9. Let's Get Married - Al Green
10. Trodding' Through The Jungle - Carleton Livingston
11. Giving You The Best That I Got - Anita Baker
12. My Philosophy - Boogie Down Productions
13. Take Me To The River - Al Green
14. Givin' My All To You - Johnny Gill
15. Sweet Thing - Rufus & Chaka Kahn
16. The Message - Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five w/Melle Mel
17. Beat Street - Melle Mel
18. They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.) - Pete Rock & CL Smooth
19. Redemption Song - Bob Marley
20. Barrington Levy - Here I Come

Also pretty much any song by Al Green, The Isley Brothers, Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley, and Barrington Levy ranks among my favorites.

Kudos go to anyone who actually knows all those songs I've listed. Sorry for the long list, but I'm an audiophile, and I have gigs of mp3's.
