apart from sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh-water system and public health...

6. I thought the Visigoths were teutonic.

8. Isn't this what brought the Dark Ages?
I haven't read my early history recently so I might be mistaken. I think that it is too far back in time to make assesment of its effect on the world. The Romans were more advanced technologically but were headed in the wrong direction morally like enjoying watching people be killed (Yes, I know that many Americans are like that too but we won't go into that.). We don't know how things would have turned out as far as the development of modern ideals and technolgy.
