I was going to suggest that you at least throw you own candidate into the fray...so we can see if they point you are trying to make about Dean supporters also applies to some of you Kucinich people.

I voted for Dean because I am Jewish, so I don't really have any allegience to Jesus. He was a good guy (and definitely a liberal for his time), but he failed in his mission as a prophet, so I would dismiss him as part of the ineffective leader category. Sorry if I am offending any Christians here...I just look at Jesus in a strictly historical sense and do not see him as anything more than a biblical prophet.

I really think Jesus would be a Democrat if he were alive these days

Here's why:

Welfare - Yes
Gun Control - Yes
National Health Care - Yes
Progressive Taxation - Yes
Death Penalty Abolition - Yes (as a victim, I can almost guarantee that he would be opposed to this)
Anti-War - Yes
Equal Rights for All - Yes
Pro-Evironment - Yes
Pro Worker/Union - Probably Yes

I think the touchy points would be Abortion and maybe some issues regarding homosexuality.

I think we can assume with a high degree of confidence that he would be against abortion. Probably not anywhere near some the level of viciousness that the fundies are, but I think he would be rather opposed.

I also think that he would be against gay marriage, but I think he would still believe in giving GLBT's equal civil rights. This one is tough, and I guess it could go either way.

From the standpoint of his Jewish heritage, doesn't Judaism not only allow but even recommend abortion in certain hardship circumstances?

As an individual and moral leader, Jesus was unusually egalitarian

I suspect he'd have been more concerned about the well-being of children who are already here.

Actually, what I said was just historical fact. What the meaning of "Jesus Saves" is can be (and is) disputed but no one could argue that many people have not found "saving grace" through Christianity. Similar spiritual experiences occur in other faiths as well, of course.

Throughout history, the Christian faith has won some and lost some but continues to campaign for Jesus, who declared himself over 2000 years ago. You don't get much in the way of nuance from my imitation"Burma Shave" doggerel but it's the bare bones of Christian history.
