Realistic height/weight measurements?
Anyone know where I can find an online non-anorexic chart/calculation? All of the ones I've visited say being that I am 5ft tall, if I weigh more than like 110lbs that I'm a porker. I do, in fact, weigh more than 110lbs, and I look quite spiffing doing it, by golly! :P Just wondering if anyone had any realisitic stats I might look at. Thanks! :)

It has more than just the CDC Body Mass Index recommendations, it also gives you a percentile comparison with others in your height-age group.

on edit, see also this additional page:

According to that, I'm *marginally overweight*...I can deal with that. There is definitely some *me* where there need be no me, but I'm certainly not obese. It gets annoying being made to think you're fat if you don't look like a stick insect. :eyes:

At least now I have attainable goals. ;)

Thanks for the link!

4. I love the way England measures how much you weigh...stones
although in my case boulders might be a better measure!

8. Put a ruler across your ribs
I read that a good way to tell if you are overweight is to lay down and put a ruler across your rib cage. If it balances, you are not overweight.
I don't know how accurate this is. There are many different rib cage shapes. When I was overweight, the ruler still balanced because my rib cage sticks out a lot. I would never be able to wear dresses smaller than size six even if I weighed 80lbs and close to total starvation because of that. I know other people with flatter ribs or ribs that curve in. The ruler might not balance for them even if they are underweight.

9. LBS do not matter
what really matters is your bodyfat %. I'm 5'4 and weigh almost 140, according to charts I'm almost over weight. I only have about 12% bodyfat though. These stupid charts do not take into account how much of your weight is muscle and how much is fat. Going by these charts most athletes w/a lot of muscle would be considered over weight. It just doesn't make sense. The opposite is true of some models that are underweight, but may have a high bodyfat %.

Most gyms will calculate your bodyfat for cheap.

throw out the scale

I find that the doctors weight/height charts suffer from being based on an ideal fiction: the standard person of a given weight and height. I understand even the location of the human heart varies somewhat from person to person.

On edit: spelling
