What ever happened to the friendly beep of the horn?

We've all had those moments at the red light where our minds slip into a reverie, or we adjust the radio, check the map, etc...

It used to be common practice to gently toot the horn when a driver's wandering mind needed to be awakened to the fact that the light had turned green. Now it seems as if 1/100th of a second's delay after the light has changed warrants a blaring HONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNK!!!
accompanied by mind-jarring expletives if the horn-blower's window is rolled down.

Must be lotsa high blood pressure out there...

Let 'em by. Give 'em room. Smile as they go by. Remember that 1) hell ain't half-full; and 2) if someone rear-end you it is THEIR fault.

to look perplexed and proceed s-l-o-w-l-y. After witnessing numerous intersection crashes while living in Houston I never jump on a green light......just mutter mantra "Horn blows and so does it driver".

A lot of them seem to have been designed to express anger.

I find I can hit mine briefly enough to avoid sounding obnoxious...It's a 95 Lumina...
