I am serious. We women get sold on being "whole" with a good man. We are driven by our hormones (a good thing and thanks to Kinsey and women's lib we can admit it).

I have a few years of experience in this and I can tell you that the most important thing you will do for yourself and the man you end up with is to make sure you love and respect who you are.

Date, enjoy, indulge but don't be in a hurry.

51. I know MANY fully developed single women

talented, beautiful, successful, intelligent, funny...yet they all are over thirty (and many over fourty) and there are no dates for them out there other than the occational man who wants to use them and toss them out like yesterdays trash (my friends are too savvy for them though, and would rather remain dateless than be used). There simply isn't the supply out there to meet the demand, and that's why so many women "settle" for men who treat them terribly. (I am not including you among them, btw-having an otherwise good man with a "weakness" is by no means ideal, but it ain't as bad as being beaten or being treated as if you are perpetually insignificant). Also, many perfectly acceptable men are intimidated by my friends, and don't bother asking them out. Hell, there are many actresses and supermodels who havn't had a date in years!

The other trouble is society-we just don't connect anymore. Work hard, buy stuff, turn on the idiot box and consume that microwave dinner...people aren't socializing as they once did. Consumerism and exhaustion may be to blame, but I don't know what the cure is. Tried volunteering, setting weekly lunch dates with friends, movie nights, etc.-it's all an uphill battle.

it's dumb to think that members of the opposite sex are akin to wheat growing in a pasture just waitng around for someone to come by. they might well be well aware of what they see coming to try to harvest them and find it inadquate to their needs and high tail it out of the situations as quickly as possible.
